Are We Representing God As Defined By His Enemy Or As Defined By His Word?

people introducing themselves

What would you think if people only knew you by what your enemies said about you? I think most people have an impression of God that has been created by our fallen culture, Satan, or sadly, by people who claim to be Christians. God is presented as a being who is untouchable, unreachable, senile, judgmental, unloving, old fashioned, non-progressive, outdated, irrelevant, unnecessary, etc. THIS is what the enemy says of God. But we, as Christians, are to be the representatives of who God REALLY is. WE are to represent HIM to the WORLD.

How many Christians do you know who are representing God as HE is?

Even the most righteous Christian contends with their deeply flawed flesh and fails to allow His spirit to transform them to properly represent Him. I’m guilty for sure!

But, our goal should be to rightly represent Him. So, what DOES a God-representing Christian look like? Well, the Bible doesn’t keep it a big secret:

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we LIVE in the Spirit, let us also WALK in the Spirit.” ‭‭‬

Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭22‬-‭25

“…walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭1‬-‭3‬‬‬

“…put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving THANKS to God the Father through Him.” ‭‭

Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭12‬-‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

If we want to properly represent God, our life must be dominated by the fruit of God’s Spirit—love, peace, thankfulness, kindness, gentleness, humility, forgiveness, and —the wisdom and strength of God’s Word. What a great challenge!

When we are born again and have Christ living in us, we have the opportunity to be God’s light in the darkness!

  1. I love Jesus so much! I think I have the fruit of God’s spirit. But I’m afraid to talk to others about Jesus! I’m very shy! Help me!

    1. You must be trained—-that’s what discipleship is! I’m about to do a series on the whole armor of God that will be helpful. But optimally, one on one discipleship is best!
