Maintaining God’s Absolute Power in Your Life

Share

God's power

A lady recently read our devotional about the connection between holiness and absolute power, and asked a great question:

“Thank you, my sister, your article really challenged me this morning—exactly what I need in my life right now. Can you talk about how Christians can use and sustain this absolute power (Dunamis) to produce good-quality results. Thanks and remain blessed.”

What a beautiful question!

Maintaining God’s absolute power in life is really about maintaining intimacy with Him—because, as the devotional reminds us, we can’t have God’s power without God’s presence. So, in response to her question, here are the key elements of maintaining this holy relationship:

1. Abide in His Word. God’s Word is both our nourishment and our weapon against the enemy’s schemes.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105

“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” John 15:7

Daily time in God’s Word renews our minds (Romans 12:2) and aligns our thinking with God’s mind rather than the enemy’s. When we know what God says, we know what is holy, and holiness is the channel through which His power flows.

2. Pray diligently. Prayer is a conversation with God, and conversation is the heartbeat of any relationship.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

“The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:16

Notice the word “righteous”—again, holiness and power are inseparable. When we pray, God illuminates the areas of sin that are hog-tying us, just as the devotional describes.

3. Walk in loving obedience. Obedience isn’t a burden; it’s the proof that we love God. It keeps the power flowing. Jesus promised:

“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth.” John 14:15-17

“He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” John 14:21

The Holy Spirit, the source of absolute power, is given in greater measure to those who walk in obedience.

4. Commit and participate actively in your local church. We were never designed to live the Christian life in isolation. The church is God’s chosen instrument for our growth, encouragement, and accountability.

“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24-25

“For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20

When we separate from the Body, we become spiritually vulnerable. When we are planted within it, we are strengthened.

5. Serve others. Serving keeps our hearts humble and outward-focused, and humility is precisely the posture God honors with His power.

“But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Matthew 23:11-12

“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” 1 Peter 4:10

When we are busy pouring out our lives in loving service, there is far less room for the enemy to plant seeds of selfishness and pride.

Each of these elements—the Word, prayer, obedience, community, and service—works together to keep us close to God and surrendered to the Holy Spirit. The moment we begin neglecting any one of them, we hand the enemy a foothold. But as we consistently say “yes” to His holy ways, we position ourselves to walk in that dunamis—that absolute, exceedingly abundant power Paul celebrated in Ephesians 3:20.

God is far more eager to fill us with His power than we are to receive it. All He asks is that we show up, stay close, and keep choosing holiness.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You that Your power is not withheld from us, but freely given through Your Holy Spirit. Forgive us for the moments we have chosen sin over holiness and traded Your strength for our own weakness. Today, we surrender afresh—our time, our habits, our pride, and our fears. Draw us deep into Your Word, into prayer, into loving obedience, and into the community of Your people. Make us humble servants who carry Your presence wherever we go. Let Your absolute power be made perfect in our weakness, so that in everything, You alone receive the glory. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
