When we pray God’s Word, which is made alive to us when we are born again, we enter a dynamic power circuit.
How?
Well, the Word is living and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword, discerning the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12), and the Word is Jesus Himself, who created everything. (John 1:1-3) As born-again believers, our souls are “in Christ,” and the Holy Spirit lives inside us. When we pray God’s own words back to Him, we enter a supernatural circuit. His Word simultaneously nourishes our souls and positions our minds; the Spirit takes the Word and guides and perfects our prayers as they are offered to our Father, who is eager to respond, longing to pour out wisdom, guidance, comfort, peace, and every eternal blessing….and even…the blessings of this earth!
Isn’t that amazing?
When we speak God’s Word—which is His langauage—back to Him as guided by the Spirit, then we enter into the most powerful portal of prayer we can ever experience.
I want to have powerful prayers—not meaningless ones—don’t you? So I’ve been asking the Lord to teach me to pray His Word so I can enter that powerful circuit of prayer. The more I read and meditate on His Word, the more I can do it from recall. However, I also write my prayers because it helps me remember. Below is one I’m currently using. I pray it out loud to keep me focused and because there is something dynamic about speaking our hearts to the Lord out loud.
Heavenly Father, in the name of the Lord Jesus, give me a heart of thanks to You for ALL things today—both the good and the hard. (Ephesians 3:20) Help me to live each moment today in gratefulness for Your indescribable gift of salvation and the generous fruit of Your Spirit! (2 Corinthians 9:15; Galatians 5:22-23)
Oh Lord, help me surrender every area of my life fully to You today. You deserve ALL of me! Oh LORD, give me a heart of gratitude for all the marvelous benefits You constantly give me—life, health, time, love, joy, peace—and so much more! (Psalm 116:12)
Lord, I want to hear Your voice all around me—giving me direction—and saying, “This is the way, walk in it.” (Isaiah 30:21) So help me hide Your Word in my heart throughout the day so I do not sin against You by walking in my own way. (Psalm 119:11) Help me today to trust in You in ALL my ways and lean not on my own understanding. May I acknowledge You in ALL I do—trusting that You WILL direct my path. (Proverbs 3:5-6) Show me all the opportunities around me to do eternal things for Your glory!
Jesus, I do not want to be anxious about any problem in my life or any burden on my heart—but You know, I do have burdens, and I am helpless without You. You have promised that if I make my requests to You, that YOU will fill me with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, and that YOU will guard my heart and mind through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7) So I make my requests—believing—and not wavering—because You have promised You will answer my prayers. I pray knowing that You have a perfect plan and You WILL answer in accordance with Your will. (James 1:6; Mark 11:24)
I bring before You the souls of [get specific] who have not trusted You as Savior. Lord, draw them by Your goodness to repentance and give them the faith to trust You. (Romans 2:4) Lord, create circumstances to bring them to You. Send Your Spirit to convict them and send someone who will share the truth of the Gospel. If I am the one to share the Gospel with them, Lord, give me the guidance of Your Spirit and I will go.
Lord…I bring my petitions on behalf of myself and others [insert specific needs] and ask—not my will, but Yours, be done. (Matthew 6:10) You know my heart and my desires…make my heart and my desires more like Yours.
Lord, help me let my light shine today so that everyone around me will see You, desire to know You, and glorify You. (Matthew 5:16)
My trust is 100% in You. You are my defender, and You give me joy—not based on my circumstances—but because of Who You are. (Phillipians 4:11-13) Lord, You bless the righteous, and You surround me with a shield. (Psalm 5:11-12) I will praise You today in every area of my life. Now to You, my King and Perfect Father, eternal, immortal, invisible, to You, Who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever, Amen. (1 Timothy 1:17)
