When Giving It All Up—Gives You Everything

Share

wealthy woman

There was a time in my life when I was very successful; yet I was disenchanted and completely unsatisfied. “More” was never enough. I had lived full-tilt in my own self-absorbed world, never caring much for anyone except myself and my tribe. MY family, MY business, MY problems, and MY pursuit of happiness—was the dominating force in my life. I’m not gonna lie, I was very surprised that the end result of all my “getting” was so dissatisfying.

This result surprised me until—I understood God did NOT create me to find my deepest satisfaction in myself. I was living in opposition with my created purpose. It was just as if I had driven my car into the river, and it was stalled and drifting with the current. At this time I had just started my journey with God and I was re-thinking much of my life. God was teaching me to think HIS way. It was during this enlightening of my mind and heart, that God inspired the lyrics to the song “Come On In.”

“You wanna little love and some harmony;

You wanna rise out of the ashes; live down by the sea;

When you give it all up; then you’ll find it;

And you’ll find that perfect PEACE that comes when you believe!”

This 180 degree redirection from God saved me from the deep valley of despair. God showed me the great peace and purpose He had for me as I surrendered to Him in EVERY area of my life. He still is!

Back then, the thought of giving up everything for Christ was not very appealing to me; but because I’d already experienced the alternative, I didn’t want to continue to live an empty, anxious, meaningless life.

I wanted to cling to Jesus, the heartbeat of the Gospel; He shares eternally satisfying treasures with those who love Him. Jesus said:

“Don’t keep striving for what you should eat and what you should drink, and don’t be anxious. For the Gentile world eagerly seeks all these things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek His kingdom, and these things will be provided for you. Don’t be afraid, little flock, because your Father delights to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Make money-bags for yourselves that won’t grow old, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your TREASURE is, there your HEART will be also.” ‭‭

Luke‬ ‭12‬:‭29‬-‭34‬ ‭‬‬

All my life, my money, family, success, and possessions were my greatest treasures; and yet, I ended up aimless, anxious, and depressed about the future. But when God radically transformed my thinking and I began giving everything I am and all I have—to Him, He gave me a soul-satisfaction I’d never had before. You see, the CHALLENGE to “give it ALL up” is actually an INVITATION to find EVERYTHING you desire. God’s treasure for us is far greater than we can even ask or imagine!

“Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

~Jesus (Matthew‬ ‭6:33‬)
