What To Do When Evil Is Making You Fearful

As I was having my quiet time this morning, I couldn’t shake the specter of evil that seems to be pressing in on every side of my life right now. I was talking about it with my good friend, Patty, and she reminded me of the power we possess as children of God. Her reminder: Christians are the bearers of the most powerful name in heaven or on earth—Jesus Christ!

“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2:9-11‬

Evil melts at the name of Jesus; therefore, we have no reason to fear ANY dark force!

If you are also experiencing an unusually brutal attack of the enemy, I would encourage you to pray the name of Jesus over everything that is dragging you down! It may require some confession—because unconfessed sin casts darkness over our life and causes us to be fearful as well.

This morning, after giving thanks and praise to God, to revive the posture of my heart, I began to pray the name of Jesus over the areas of my life the Spirit of God revealed. I’ve included that part of my prayer from this morning because I often need to be reminded of what that kind of praying looks like. Sometimes, the darkness is so dark, I need something to read in order to rekindle my prayer and keep it on track. I also use The Lord’s Prayer as the basic framework when I can’t find the right words or thoughts. This portion of my prayer addresses the section of “deliver us from evil.”

“In YOUR name Jesus, I do not fear what evil can do to my body or my soul—because it has NO POWER over my spirit which is eternally secured by Your precious blood. My name is written in Your book and no one can blot it out!

Jesus, I speak Your name over my fear because your Word commands me to “fear not,” and you said whatever I ask in YOUR name and according to YOUR will—YOU will give it to me. Lord, I know it is 100% YOUR will that I live in obedience to YOUR WORD and therefore, I am claiming this promise to live in obedience and to NOT be afraid.

Lord, I know it is sin that causes me fear; therefore, I repent from the sins of doubt, worry, unforgiveness, hate, retaliation, vengeance, and ANY other darkness. Lord reveal any root of evil that I am not seeing that would try to take over my heart and mind.

I speak Your name, Jesus, over my heart and mind—that You would purify it. Make Your Word a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. I speak Your name, Jesus, over my law practice, my family, the people you place in my path to minister to, and upon the ministry of FaithStrong You have given me.

In Your powerful and precious name, Jesus, I bind all dissension that may rise up! Thank you, my Lord and my Savior!”

Amen

Whatever is making you afraid, remember—if you have been born again through Christ—you DO NOT HAVE TO LIVE IN FEAR!!! Casting out fear begins with love. Christ loved us before we loved Him. We love Him in return by—living in heart-obedience to His Word. When we are living in obedience, we have the power of HIS name at our disposal and we NEVER have to be afraid!

“Why should I fear in the days of evil, When the iniquity at my heels surrounds me? Like sheep they are laid in the grave; Death shall feed on them; the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭49:5,14‬a
