Walking On The Waves Of Criticism

For some reason, we all like to be critics of those who are out there accomplishing extraordinary things. Thus, when God calls US to do something great, WE often cower in fear of OUR critics. For this reason, I really admire Peter, who, when he saw Jesus walking on the water in the storm, asked:

“Lord, if it is you…tell me to come to You on the water.”

And when Jesus said, “Come…”

Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus.

Matthew 14:28-29

If Peter had any thoughts about his critics—it wasn’t enough to stop him from becoming the only human in recorded history (besides Jesus) to walk on water.

While we critics focus on Peter’s failure—losing faith and sinking—some of us never even get out of the boat. Is it because we are too afraid of failure and the waves of criticism? What great miracles are we missing?

Ah, my dear friend, to set “safe” goals—goals you are confident YOU can accomplish—is to miss living in the power and promises of God.

I remember a lady relating how she had chosen climbing the corporate ladder instead of giving birth to three of her unborn children. She aborted them because she wanted to prove her worth to herself and society. She made this statement: “Don’t be afraid to get out of the boat and walk on the water.” Miraculously, God took her off the corporate ladder and put her on a much richer path which she described as: “I finally got out of the boat.”

YOU and I were created for GREATNESS.

Like Peter, we need to listen for God‘s voice. We need to trust Him so we do what He says even if it appears foolish or impossible. We are NOT God but we can trust Him. His thoughts are far above ours.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭55:8-9‬

We need to remember that God is bigger than the waves! No matter who we are or what we have done, God is more powerful, loving, and wise than our critics. If you are ready to experience the power of HIS miracles, to walk on the waves and prove the critics wrong then—pursue God. Listen to His voice and trust His ways.

God has a greater plan for you than your critics do so don’t be afraid to get out of the boat and walk on water!
