My daily Bible read-through has taken me back to the book of Genesis. It never ceases to amaze me how God’s Word is so deep that no matter how many times I read it, it often seems like the very first time! When our heart is 100% open and passionate to learn, God is so faithful to give us His wisdom for life.
This includes great investment advice!
At the beginning of time for all humanity, the Bible says:
“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
Genesis 2:7
God is, no doubt, a master artist, bringing something as inherently inanimate as dust—to life. The Psalmist agrees:
“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: Marvelous are thy works; And that my soul knoweth right well.”
Psalm 139:14
I never considered one of the most profound spiritual applications is based upon the fact that God created our physical body from dirt! Why is this profound? Because it is in glaring contradiction to how I prioritize my life focus on physical versus spiritual! There is no doubt that our pop culture has totally missed this lesson as well. The enemy wants us to be deceived and keep us hyper-focused on our body and physical well-being; yet, God clearly has shown us that our greatest value is not in the physical characteristics that form our body and perish; but in the qualities of the spiritual part of us, which are the eternal components of our human design.
“But there is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.”
Job 32:8
“Thus says God the Lord, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it, Who gives breath to the people on it, and spirit to those who walk on it…”
Isaiah 42:5
God is encouraging me to invest my primary focus—not on pampering and preserving my physical body or gaining more wealth which I cannot take with me—but rather, to invest heavily in the spiritual part of me. This is the eternal part that is reborn with the genetics of Jesus Christ. Right now—God is giving us breath; and as His children, we have the extraordinary opportunity to use each exhalation to draw others into His presence. This is eternally glorious work!
“While I live I will praise the Lord; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. Do not put your trust in princes, Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help. His spirit departs, he returns to his earth; in that very day his plans perish.”
Psalms 146:2-4
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Matthew 6:19-21
God has given each of us an extraordinary gift—it is the present. We can make an eternal difference, which becomes treasures that do not fade away. When you consider what is on your plate today, consider whether it is God’s plan—or your own. In whatever you have to do, let the glory of God shine from you so that all people will see you and know HIM.
God is giving you the life to read these words; invest it wisely!
