It doesn’t matter whether you are a Christian, an atheist, an agnostic, a Buddhist, a Catholic, or whatever you choose to believe—we ALL experience tough times. WHAT we place our greatest faith in is —WHAT determines HOW we walk through our trials. Wouldn’t you rather go through hard times with God, who is all-powerful, omniscient. and omnipresent? To prepare for trials, what we need to really figure out is what (or more importantly WHO) has earned our greatest trust.
Do we trust MOST in our own power to get through trials?
Do we trust MOST our wealth and resources to weather the storms?
WHO should we trust the MOST?
The Bible says God…
“has made everything beautiful in its time…[and] has put eternity in [our] hearts, [so] that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.”
Ecclesiastes 3:11
Years later, Paul wrote from prison:
“I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel, so that it has become EVIDENT to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ; and most of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chains, are MUCH MORE bold to speak the word WITHOUT FEAR.”
Philippians 1:12-14
How could Paul be so confident in his CHAINS? It’s because he had some powerful intel about the God of the Bible—that we ALL need to know. So ask yourself these questions regarding what you trust in the most:
Does your “god” have the power to make “EVERYTHING beautiful in its time?”
Would your “god” make you confident—even if you were in prison?
If the answer is “no” then perhaps you are trusting too much in the wrong “god.” I will be the first to admit that I often stray from the God of the Bible and quite often need to recheck WHO I am worshipping. We ALL struggle with this! That’s why I wrote the ten day devotional series beginning with “Which God Are You Praying To?” My friend, what kind of trial are you going through right now? Do you feel CONFIDENT; or, do you feel—devastated and hopeless?
There is no shame in feeling overwhelmed, but be mindful—you don’t have to stay there! God has a plan—just like He did for Paul. You may be facing cancer, divorce, death, job uncertainty, family discord, or some equally painful situation but—if you are born again in Christ—you DON’T have to walk through it alone! You don’t have to walk through it with a powerless god. The problem for most of us is that we don’t seek God first. We run FIRST to friends, distractions, addictions, doctors, lawyers, etc.
God is waiting.
Slow down and dig deep into your relationship with Him!
You can have SUCH a tight relationship with God that—as each trial arises—you KNOW He is right there with you. You can begin each trial from a place of safety AND you ride it out there. In God’s presence, you can have rest and completely trust because—He is with you. He knows the end.
God knows our life from beginning to end; when we trust Him, He makes all things beautiful in His time. (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
