How To Keep Your Soul From Being Thirsty

I remember a time when I spent more time anxious—than being satisfied. The work day would grind by with its problems and anxiety and weariness would grow. I would do things to relieve stress like work-out, play sports, hike, eat, cook, mow the yard, hang out with friends, sleep, etc. They were temporary fixes and then the morning would come…with all the anxiety of the day beginning again.

I have discovered a much better way to live!

We were designed to be anxious—when we’re missing what we need. This anxiety mechanism is designed to keep us healthy. For example, have you ever been so thirsty that you began to feel faint? Have you ever been hangry? Have you ever had a financial crisis and felt like your head was going to explode? Water, food, resources…all are basic PHYSICAL needs.

We ALSO have basic SPIRITUAL needs!

Jesus explained to the woman at the well:

“Whoever drinks of this water [from the physical well] will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

John‬ ‭4:13-14‬

Our spirit man (soul and spirit) is the deepest part of who we are and it lasts forever. Our body will die and be buried. Yet, consider how much time we devote to the body versus our spirit and soul. I am writing this devotional on my lunch break because in my morning quiet time, God led me in a completely different direction…to reflect in the living water. God reminded me:

May your soul be constantly refreshed in the fountain of living water.

Meditate on these two beautiful passages and take some time to commune with God.

“Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ‘For Yah, the Lord, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’ Therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭12:2-3‬

“If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

John‬ ‭7:37-38‬

Know God.

Thank Him.

Praise Him.

Surrender gladly to the purpose and plan He has for you!
