How Loving God’s Word Produces Great Peace

Psalms 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible. Aptly, it is all about the importance of loving and treasuring God’s Word! The innumerable treasures from cherishing God’s Word cannot be bought with money. Our culture spends millions on things we believe will alleviate our anxiety. Counseling, medications, diets, surgery, drugs and alcohol, entertainment, etc. But no amount of money or escape can give us lasting peace. We think we experience hell now, but for those who die without His gift of salvation, they will experience eternal anxiety on a level never before known to mankind. This is eternal hell. We CANNOT possess lasting peace unless we know the Prince of Peace—which is JESUS:

For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭9‬:‭6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

For those who know Jesus, His Word promises:

Great peace have those who love Your law, and NOTHING causes them to stumble.‬‬

Psalms‬ ‭119‬:‭165

How does loving God’s laws produce peace?

Well, my friend, it is very simple.

After we are born again, Christ (remember, He is the Prince of Peace) lives WITHIN us. He is holy. He is the only human who perfectly obeyed every aspect of the law. There is no unholiness in Him. When we choose to love GOD and love His WAYS—including His commandments—we are living in unity with him. This is where we find HIS peace.

While Jesus walked on this earth, He promised to give us HIS PEACE:

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; NOT as the WORLD gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭27‬

When we LOVE God so much that we are consistently living according to HIS Word, we have HIS PEACE.

Furthermore, Psalms 119:165 says that when we love God’s Word, NOTHING causes us to stumble. Why not? Well, when we love God’s Word, it illuminates our path and reveals the truth. We are walking in the LIGHT of REALITY instead of the dark shadows, fear, anxiety, and whispering lies. We see sin for what it is—a dark prison. We long for the freedom of light that we find in God’s Word!

Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭119‬:‭11

Furthermore, the more we internalize the truth of God’s Word, the less we want to violate our relationship with Him by sinning against Him. In other words we don’t want to live in disobedience, because we value the relationship too much.

Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.

Psalms‬ ‭119‬:‭‭105‬ ‬‬

Keep in mind that reading God’s Word WITHOUT a desire to LIVE in LOVING obedience, will only make you MORE anxious. The key to allowing God’s Word to give us peace is to love the Lord with ALL our HEART, SOUL, and MIND. Then, we enter into the experience of what Jesus said was HIS PEACE.

God’s peace defies human understanding and—IT SHOULD because—He is God, the one who created peace!
