Several years ago, I was reading “The Sacred Romance” by John Etheridge, and I was blown away by this statement:
“For centuries prior to our Modern Era, the church viewed the Gospel as a Romance, a cosmic drama, but the sad fact is that modern evangelicalism reads like an IRS 1040 form: It’s true, all the data is there, but it doesn’t take your breath away.”
This really made me think about the things that take my breath away and consider……is my faith in God really remarkable enough to take my breath away?
I pondered the way I’m living out my faith in God and wondered:
WHY isn’t God the greatest inspiration in my life?
WHY isn’t God the one I most desperately desire to spend every waking hour with?
WHY don’t I passionately desire to know everything about Him and the wisdom of His ways?
WHY is His Word often boring and difficult for me to read?
WHY don’t I desire to worship Him in His house and be more involved in HIS church?
These questions produced a transformation in my walk with God which caused me to bridge the gap between living in mere physical faith and crossover to supernatural faith. Now, I never want to go back to the IRS 1040 kind of life! Allow me to share what God has been teaching me about the great passionate romance of living in supernatural faith.
After we are born again and Jesus brings our dead spirit to life—we are equipped to live for a Divine and supernatural purpose. BUT, we often get suckered back into the cares of this world and lose our sense of the greater story for which we were created! It’s like we’re sweeping the stage after the play is over instead of starring in the role we were created to play. We’ve fallen into the black hole. No wonder our life with Christ is about as exciting as sweeping a stage after the excitement of the play is over.
My friend, we were created to live as a masterpiece and deep down—we ALL KNOW it!
We were created to live knowing God, yet we look for His plan in everything except Him. But we CAN choose to live in God’s righteous ways and make Him the most passionate desire of our heart. God’s presence sets our faith on fire! But, if you are like me, you understand that the struggle to desire God is constant. That’s why I often pray and ask God “help me desire You.”
I WANT God to give me the kind of adventure that takes my breath away—don’t you???
I desire to know God and understand my complete need for Him. The Psalmist wrote:
“You will guide me with Your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.
My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Psalms 73:24-26
Is there anyone greater than God? Is there anyone who has done more for you? When we know God, He becomes the greatest passion and object of our faith then—everyone around us knows—HE is our passion and the ONE who takes our breath away.
“But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all Your works.”
Psalms 73:28
