What are your greatest expectations? We were created to have great expectations in life. Our longings spring from whatever we think we are missing. The great desires we passionately pursue are as varied as the number of people on the planet, but as common as the humanity we possess. Family, love, security, success, whatever puts a spring in our step as we greatly anticipate possessing it; or—crushes us if we imagine life without it. These are our most people’s greatest expectations.
But—what does it look like when GOD is our greatest expectation?
The Psalmist wrote,
“My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God.”
Psalms 62:5-7
What would your life be like if God was…YOUR greatest expectation?
My friend, if you had told me 15 years ago that God could satisfy my greatest expectations, I would NOT have believed you. I was so blinded by the world’s shiny trinkets and the Hollywood version of “love” that I could not see the truth about love and satisfaction. But now that I’ve experienced the presence of God, I can say that my greatest expectations are continually satisfied in Him. God is the reason I get up every morning. He is the reason for everything I do. He is my greatest hope. I would be crushed without Him. He never fails me. He NEVER disappoints me.
God is who I desire most because He loves me the best.
When our greatest expectation is in God, then all our desires begin with Him. We are never disappointed because—He never fails. In the morning, His presence is what we anticipate. He is always there. Throughout the day, He is the one we desire most. He is our Shepherd and we want for nothing. (Psalms 23:1)
God’s presence molds our expectations to fulfill the specific, eternal purpose He created for us before we were even born.
“My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them. How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!”
Psalms 139:15-17
When God is your greatest expectation, you will never be disappointed!
