I remember being a teenager, dreaming big and constantly plotting how to make all my plans a reality. What never crossed my mind was asking God about His plans for my life. Honestly, I was afraid to ask—afraid His plans would be boring or restrictive compared to the adventures I imagined for myself.
The truth? I had no clue how good and wise God really is.
Decades later, even after watching God work wonders in my life, I still find myself making plans without asking Him first. I slip back into old habits—planning out my day, my goals, my schedule—without considering whether those plans are His will. I forget how fragile life is and how limited my understanding really is.
James 4:13–15 gives a direct warning about this mindset:
“Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit’—yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.’”
Have you asked God about HIS plans for you today?
This morning, I did. And God completely changed my direction. He opened my eyes to see the eternal value I was about to miss by chasing my own agenda. I canceled what I had planned—and followed His lead. The peace that flooded my heart confirmed it: this was His plan, not mine. And it mattered. Eternally.
Thousands of years from now, what I did today for God’s glory will still matter—because His works never fade. His plans are filled with purpose and power. We are like carriers of the cure for the cancer; we hold the gift of salvation from the misery of sin. Our life can bring glory to Almighty God! Why settle for ordinary when God has extraordinary waiting for you?
“We speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory.” 1 Corinthians 2:7
“The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.” Deuteronomy 33:27
Don’t just fill your day—fulfill your purpose. Seek God first. He will show you the path that leads to what truly matters.
Reflection Question:
Have you surrendered today’s schedule to God—or are you chasing your own agenda?
Prayer:
Father, forgive me for the times I rush ahead with my own plans. Remind me that Your ways are higher, wiser, and far more meaningful than anything I could arrange on my own. Open my eyes to the eternal impact You want to make through me today. Give me the courage to let go of my plans and follow You fully. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
