Can you fathom the glorious idea that you can possess the wisdom of God, Who created and sustains everything? “Wisdom” is different from “knowledge.” Simply put, wisdom is the application of knowledge. How we think, speak and act reveals—the origin of our wisdom. The Bible distinguishes two vastly different sources of wisdom:
“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does NOT descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.”
“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.”
James 3:13-18
The proof of God’s wisdom is in how we treat other people!
These verses challenge me to examine what my life reveals about my source of wisdom. The proof of whether we are living in the wisdom of Almighty God—or in the dark wisdom of the world—is revealed in the degree of love, joy, peace, goodness, kindness, and compassion we have for others. The fruits of God’s Spirit belong to God. So does His wisdom. We can’t have either without God. We will NEVER demonstrate either if we’re living in disobedience to His Word.
So, you ask, how can I have this remarkable wisdom that “is from above” and exceeds anything in the entire universe? First, you must be born again and then—you must love God so much that you passionately strive to live in loving obedience to Him. This turns the faucet to “on” and causes His fountain of wisdom to burst from our life. He flows through us unimpeded by the chokehold of sin. This remarkable experience was described by the Apostle Paul:
“What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived—the things God has prepared for those who love him—these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.”
“The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.”
“What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.”
”This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.”
1 Corinthians 2:9-13
Wow—we can KNOW the thoughts of God when we live in the Spirit of God!
How humbling to know that the Creator, who holds the answers to ALL of life’s questions, has offered us HIS wisdom! When we are born again, we are given the key that opens the door to His wisdom.
We must never forget that GOD’S wisdom comes from HIM.
Do you want God’s wisdom? Spend time with HIM. God is holy, so train your mind to love what is holy and hate sin. Plant the seeds of His Word in your mind and heart and His Spirit will cultivate His wisdom within you. As His presence becomes a greater part of your life—His wisdom will flow freely. You will discover yourself thinking more like God. You will be delighted to discover that your life is operating far, far above your own capabilities.
My friend, God wants to freely give you HIS wisdom!
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”
James 1:5
God’s wisdom is as close to us as—WE are to HIM.
