A Life-Changing Prayer

One of my most life-changing prayers has been to consistently ask God to reveal Himself to me. “Oh Lord, reveal Yourself to me!” I want to know God better today, than I did yesterday.

Why the passion to KNOW God???

There are many reasons.

God does my life better than I do. My life was a train-wreck without Him. Even my life’s greatest accomplishments—without Him—are mediocre. Without Him, I am a superhero trapped in a rat race. Do you feel this? But—in His presence, my life is driven by Divine purpose and supernatural power. He gives me supreme satisfaction.

The better I know God, the better I like who He made me. Seriously, I was so tired of constantly struggling to meet the unattainable standard of “perfection” set by this world’s culture. It’s a moving target that is constantly being changed on the whim of pop culture. But, the closer I get to God, the more His light gives me the wisdom to let go of anything that does not make me TRULY beautiful. I am beautiful in HIS sight because I have been born into His family. What sweet relief. When I am close to God, I love who I see when I look in the mirror of His Word.

The better I know God, the more I am filled with peace that passes understanding; wisdom that exceeds my own knowledge; and Divine power. It is surreal to live in absolute peace in the midst of this anxiety-ridden world. What great delight to discover God’s answers to difficult problems and to tap into His power. This is my daily experience with Him—over and over again.

I could go on…and on. I could share example after example. Each experience is always a segue to a conversation about how glorious it is to know God.

There is ALWAYS so much to say about the goodness of God’s presence!

Paul the Apostle prayed for the Christians at Ephesus: “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may GIVE to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.” (Ephesians 1:17) When we KNOW God, we CAN have HIS spirit of wisdom and revelation! Wowza!!! Paul went on to pray…

“the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may KNOW what is the HOPE of His calling, what are the RICHES of the glory of His INHERITANCE in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His POWER toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places.”

Ephesians‬ ‭1:18-20‬

DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE GREAT SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS PRAYER?

Yes! I’m shouting! The more we know God, the more we have EVERYTHING we are desperate to have. Like water in the desert, through our precious relationship with God, we tap into everything our soul has ever needed. AND—we have the same POWER that raised Jesus from the dead. Most of the “great” power we see in the world is power to destroy and blow-up things—not to give life. God’s power stands alone.

Through our relationship with God, the “eyes of our understanding are enlightened,” and His presence works so deeply into our soul that it transforms everything about us. We value our relationship with Him more than even—the benefits of the relationship. But the benefits ARE GREAT. When we experience God, we don’t want to do anything that takes us away from Him.

When God’s presence is our greatest desire, our life becomes a masterpiece of Heaven.
