I will never forget taking my first solo flight when I was learning to fly fixed wing! It was completely exhilarating. I was super disappointed that my CFI didn’t follow the great aviation tradition and cut my shirt tails. Well, perhaps he wasn’t as excited about it as I was…or maybe, he wasn’t as confident in my success as a pilot. [Just kidding] In any event, it’s something I will never forget. Being up there all alone in control of the aircraft was the realization of a great dream I’d had for much of my life. I didn’t fly solo without faith. My faith in my training allowed me to have an experience that was more fantastic than I had ever imagined. So…
If my faith in 25 hours of pilot training can produce such an exhilarating experience; how much more will my faith in Almighty God produce experiences beyond my greatest imagination???
Faith is basic. It is defined as:
“The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Hebrews 11:1
Faith is something we ALL exercise everyday—whether we are believers in God or not. For example, you have faith in the chair you just sat in; you have faith in the other drivers on the interstate; and you have faith in the personnel who prepared the food you ordered in the drive-through. If you have faith in people you don’t know; can you imagine what kind of action you could take by having faith in God if you took the time to know HIM?
God chartered my flight of faith before I was born. (Jeremiah 29:11) The more I trust God, the more I am a frequent flyer. 😏 God takes me to places greater than I imagine and helps me accomplish things I never knew possible! You see, you don’t have to be Billy Graham or Jim Elliot to live out great works of faith. God just needs a little faith—to do a lot. Consider the answer of Jesus when the apostles asked Him to increase their faith:
“If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.”
Luke 17:5-6
