What Does It Mean To Live For God’s Glory?

I often struggle to understand what it means to live for God’s glory. Does it mean I need to stop practicing law and go into full time ministry? Does it mean I should sell everything and go to the mission field? I honestly don’t want to do either…I really don’t…but—I DO want to know how to live in the plan God has for me. So, I looked to His Word:

God said in Isaiah: “Everyone who is called by My name, [and] whom I have created for My glory...”

Isaiah‬ ‭43:7‬a

Paul wrote to the church at Corinth: “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do ALL to the glory of God.”

1 Corinthians‬ 10:31

Because we are created in the image of God and FOR His glory—we have the great privilege to live for HIM—in all we do. My DESIRE is to live for the glory of God. But my default ACTION seems to be to live for lesser things like—surviving to pay the bills, improving my life circumstances, or—worst of all—living for my own glory and gratification.

To reset my life, God is teaching me to renew my mind with praise and thanksgiving to Him. Thankfulness is the music God has written for us to sing His glory to the world. When we tell of the great things He has done for us—it uplifts us and it draws others to Him. When we speak our thankfulness back to Him, we are reminded of WHY living for Him is such a blessing.

It is to our great benefit to secure this knowledge and cement it into our mind. Why? Because living for God’s glory is the way we were designed to live. If we don’t learn how to do this, we are like a bird who never learns to fly.

If you miss the critical point of thankfulness, you will live a lesser life than God intends for you.

The following Psalm of thanksgiving is a perfect example of how to reset your mind in thankfulness. As you read it, praise and thank God for all He has done, and is doing for you. It will change your motivation. It will encourage you to make all you do today be—for His glory!

Praise the Lord! I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, In the assembly of the upright and in the congregation. The works of the Lord are great, Studied by all who have pleasure in them. His work is honorable and glorious, And His righteousness endures forever. He has made His wonderful works to be remembered.

The Lord is gracious and full of compassion. He has given food to those who fear Him; He will ever be mindful of His covenant. He has declared to His people the power of His works, in giving them the heritage of the nations.

The works of His hands are verity and justice; All His precepts are sure. They stand fast forever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness. He has sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His covenant forever: Holy and awesome is His name.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.

(‭‭Psalms‬ ‭111:1-10‬)

When the life God has given me—practicing law, being a mom, a friend, a mentor, writer, and disciple of Christ—is lived for God’s glory…I am right where I belong.

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
