Winning The Battle For Our Mind

Some of the toughest battles we fight are the ones in our mind. A negative thought intrudes and we begin to feel—afraid, insufficient, anxious, rejected, lonely, hopeless, etc. When I begin to feel myself being buried in any of these negative thoughts, I ask God to remind me of who I am. I belong to Him. Through the immeasurable gift of salvation, He has made me a new person. When God looks on my soul He sees the righteousness of Jesus Christ—NOT who everyone else says I am. Because my soul is alive, I am enabled to communicate with God Almighty. He gives me the BEST thoughts.

God is never afraid, insufficient, anxious, lonely, or hopeless.

And—when I think God’s thoughts, I’m not either! You see, when we are born again, we have the “mind of Christ” and we are enabled to think like Him. Securing victory in our mind begins by renewing our mind. This must be done often.

“Put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the NEW MAN which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.” ‭‭

Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭22‬-‭24‬

To win the battle of our mind, we need to change our way of thinking. This is a simple two-fold process. We get rid of the bad thoughts and replace them with good thoughts. But as born again believers, we are not dependent upon our own will-power to do this. NO—we are endowed with supernatural power! Because when our soul is born again, we are a “new man” in Christ and we have an inner desire to live in righteousness. We possess a power greater than our own—the power of the Holy Spirit living in us!

Our “old man” is dead and can NO LONGER make slaves out of us because Jesus is no one’s slave. Our soul is ALIVE in Him. Thus, we are no longer slaves to our thoughts. The Bible says:

“knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin.” ‭‭

Romans‬ ‭6‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭‬‬

Whatever thoughts are holding you captive, remember they cannot make a slave out of you UNLESS you let them. Jesus is greater than your thoughts. As soon as one enters your mind, give it to Him. Ask Him to show you out of His Word what thoughts to replace them with. Use a search engine to find scriptures to give you good thoughts in the areas you have bad thoughts. For example, if you think you are worthless, memorize scriptures that remind you of your value. God’s Word is broad and deep. It covers every imaginable challenge we face. God is so good that way.

The closer we draw to God by reading His Word, praying, confessing and turning from our sinful habits, and living in obedience to His Word—the stronger we build our foundation for winning the battle of the mind.

When we are close to God, His presence makes us victorious in the battles of our mind.
