Today, I have a 50 mile drive to get to work. My 2015 Toyota 4Runner sits in my garage with a full tank of gas. I parked it there last night. It has four good tires, the oil has been changed, and it’s never broken down once in the 160,000 miles I’ve driven it. By every indication—it’s highly dependable. But, if I don’t believe in it enough to get in it and start the engine—well, it’s going to be a very long walk to work! In fact, I’m going to spend all my time walking and I won’t even make it to work. I won’t get any work done because I’ll be too busy walking. Even if, by some miracle, I did make it to work, I’d be too exhausted to be useful.
I think this is very much how I tend to live my Christian life.
I have the greatest power on earth residing within me—the power of the Holy Spirit. Yet—I approach the day as if I’m walking 50 miles to work. I need to get IN the Spirit and let HIS power take me where I need to go. I need to allow HIS navigation to guide me and allow HIM to empower me to accomplish the great plans He has for me today.
And I need to put greater faith in God than I do lesser things—HE deserves it! For example, I just flipped a switch to make a delicious cup of dark roast coffee. I did NOT have to—get dressed, go outside, gather wood, start a fire, get water from the creek, manually grind coffee beans, and boil coffee in a percolator over an open fire—to make it the hard way. Why would I do all that work when it’s so much easier to engage technology at my fingertips? And—do I believe MORE in the Keurig than I BELIEVE in the power of the Holy Spirit? When I engage God’s power in all I do, I am believing HE will empower ME to do HIS work. It is ineffective and inefficient to believe in only myself.
God has a much better plan for how to do my life than I do.
God has many exciting opportunities and blessings planned for us today; but we need to place HIM in control!
“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in BELIEVING, that ye may ABOUND in hope, through the POWER of the Holy Ghost.”
Romans 15:13
When we are filled with the Holy Spirit through surrendering every part of our heart to Him, we ABOUND in the power of hope. We live in the reality that God has given us the same power that raised Jesus from the dead! His power is beyond anything we can comprehend. Do we KNOW God well enough to BELIEVE we can entrust our life to HIS power?!?
The Holy Spirit is a powerful ride. He moves mountains in ways our frail mind could NEVER predict. Don’t keep that powerful ride in your garage of unbelief! Strap in, fire up the engine, put your seatbelt on, and get ready for the ride of your life!
God has miles of powerful adventures planned for you today!
