When we are struggling to go on in life, not only do we constantly need to be reminded of how well God knows us; but we also need to be reminded of WHO God is. We serve the Master of all that exists and we can take comfort in this! Psalms 18 conveys this point and as I read it, God gave me such encouraging thoughts and prayers. When I struggle to go on, I am reminded of the great God I serve. He never fails. He is my strength. He will deliver me from trouble. He is my comforter. He never changes. When I seek God, He literally writes an IEP (Individualized Education Program) for me each day! 😆
Below each of the selected verses from Psalms 18 are the prayers He inspired to encourage and strengthen my mind and heart.
“I will love You, O Lord, my strength.”
Oh, Lord, when I make You the center of my life, YOU are my source of strength.
“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
You get me up in the morning, You prepare my mind for the battles of the day, You give me the strength to walk out the door, and You sustain me all the day long.
“I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies. The pangs of death surrounded me, and the floods of ungodliness made me afraid…In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried out to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, and my cry came before Him, even to His ears.”
Lord, though my enemies seek to destroy me, I call upon You because I know You; I trust You, You have never forsaken me or failed me. I take comfort in remembering this. Show me the power of Your presence!
“He delivered me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my calamity, but the Lord was my support.”
Thank you, Lord, for opening my eyes to behold Your power and wisdom. Thank you for Your Word being my lamp in the darkness and my light to enlighten my mind. Thank you for caring about my comfort. You show me the weakness of my enemies when I stand in the shadow of Your strength!
“He delivered me because He delighted in me. The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me.”
Oh Lord, keep me faithful to live according to Your Word. I desire to delight in You and be found in Your favor.
“With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful…for You will save the humble people, but will bring down haughty looks.”
May I be as faithful to You as You are to me. Rescue me from my dangerous and destructive pride!
“For You will light my lamp; the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness. For by You I can run against a troop, by my God I can leap over a wall. As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him. For who is God, except the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God? It is God who arms me with strength, and makes my way perfect…. You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; Your right hand has held me up!”
Help me keep YOU at my center. May I pause frequently throughout this day and reset in Your Spirit. Show me Your path of peace.
“The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock! Let the God of my salvation be exalted.“
