According to the Oxford Dictionary, “wisdom” is “the soundness of an action or decision with regard to the application of experience, knowledge, and good judgment.” Put in simple terms, it’s taking what you know and making good decisions with it. Ask yourself: Has what you KNOW, what you’ve EXPERIENCED, and the DECISIONS you’ve made in the past—brought you complete satisfaction?
If YOUR “wisdom” has left you just as dissatisfied with your life as you were a year ago, consider your sources.
Consider the people you think are wise…the books they write, videos they make, podcasts they broadcast…is this your source of wisdom? Do any of these people add anything to your life besides bare bones knowledge? The fact is, there is a HUGE difference between the wisdom from GOD and the wisdom of MAN. The difference is manifested in what the “wise” person adds to the life of others.
One primary difference between the wisdom of man and the wisdom of God is that God’s wisdom comes from a RELATIONSHIP with Him. That personal and daily relationship produces wisdom! No one else can give us that.
“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does NOT descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. BUT the wisdom that is from ABOVE is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.”
James 3:13-17
The evidence that we are RICH in God’s WISDOM is LESS in the words we SAY and MORE in the love we SHOW.
You can’t give away what you don’t have. Godly wisdom comes from God. It doesn’t come from nature, money, animals, Google, books, other people, or ANY created thing or person. This discourse from the book of Job is brilliant and succinct:
“But where can wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?
Man does NOT know its value, nor is it found in the land of the living.
The deep says, ‘It is not in me’; and the sea says, ‘It is not with me.’
It cannot be purchased for gold, Nor can silver be weighed for its price. It cannot be valued in the gold of Ophir, In precious onyx or sapphire. Neither gold nor crystal can equal it, Nor can it be exchanged for jewelry of fine gold. No mention shall be made of coral or quartz, for the price of wisdom is above rubies. The topaz of Ethiopia cannot equal it, nor can it be valued in pure gold.
From where then, does wisdom come? And where is the place of understanding?
It is hidden from the eyes of ALL living, And concealed from the birds of the air. Destruction and Death say, ‘We have heard a report about it with our ears.’
God understands its way, and He knows its place. For He looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole heavens, to establish a weight for the wind, and apportion the waters by measure. When He made a law for the rain, and a path for the thunderbolt. Then He saw wisdom and declared it; He prepared it, indeed, He searched it out.
And to man He said,
‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding.‘”
Job 28:12-28
God’s wisdom comes only from God. God is holy, and to be close to Him, we must forsake anything that violates His holiness. The greatest evidence of God’s wisdom in our life is in the way we love. When we are wise, we love with God’s love. His Love is within us, and flows out of us.
To have God’s wisdom, He must be on the throne of our heart.

All so true. I had “fairytale faith”, for many many years. No amount of “things”, satisfied me. I was craving a REAL relationship with GOD and I did not even know that is what I wanted. The devil had me convinced that I was working for the good and doing things right in my life.
When I opened my eyes and was born again my life completely changed. I have seen the workings of GOD first hand, for me and for the ones I pray for every second of every day and it is amazing. Feeling the kind of love he gives me, and letting him lead my way instead of letting the “wisdom of man”, lead my way. He shows me unconditional love and in return I show others unconditional love.
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. John 4:18
This was a really great devotional! Thank you.
What a blessing to hear of God’s working in your heart. You express your relationship with God so beautifully! Thank you for sharing. ~Kimberly
