What Does Living Righteously Have To Do With Praying Powerfully?

If we desire to experience POWER in our prayers, we must be well-connected to the One who holds the power! God holds all of the power in the universe. He IS the power that sustains everything. No human mind can adequately grasp the magnitude of His power. So, how is it that a mere mortal like you or me can tap into this power? Well, we must understand that God is NOT a genie in a bottle to grant wishes to strangers who only call on Him when they need Him. Nor can His power be bribed or bought.

So what is the great secret to accessing God’s power for our prayers?

My friend, when our soul and spirit are made righteous through receiving the gift of salvation, we are given the priceless ability to draw close to our PERFECTLY righteous Father. But, like the prodigal son, we often choose to throw away the benefits of our sonship and distance ourselves on the broken road of sin. Our choice to live an unholy life never changes our sonship; however, it DOES remove the power from our prayers. God doesn’t play around with sin. Why should He? It’s what crucified His Son! He KNOWS whether our heart desires HIM more than we desire anything else.

“I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.”

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭17‬:‭10‬

But—for those who passionately pursue His righteousness—God fully SATISFIES their desires,

“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be FILLED.” ‭‭

Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭6‬ ‭‬‬

Do you daily “hunger and thirst after righteousness?” If you are like me, this desire to live according to God’s righteous ways must be DAILY rekindled! That’s why reading the Bible and praying are so critical first thing in the morning. It’s so worth it! Living in righteousness is the line of demarcation between having a powerful prayer life and having a weak, ineffective prayer life.

“The effectual fervent prayer of a RIGHTEOUS man availeth MUCH.” ‭‭

James‬ ‭5‬:‭16‬ ‭‬‬

When my heart is to please God more than to please Kimberly, my prayer life is so powerful that I am constantly in awe of how the presence of God works through me! It is an amazing experience to dwell in the power of the presence of God!

What a humbling and ADDICTING experience to have the ear of God!

God offers this experience to ALL who are born again! The requirement? Pursue righteousness; which is—to pursue God. When we do, we learn to pray in God’s will. When we pray for God’s will, our prayers are fully confident because we know we are operating in HIS power.

“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And IF we KNOW that He hears us, whatever we ask, we KNOW that we HAVE the petitions that we have asked of Him.”

‭‭I John‬ ‭5‬:‭14‬-‭15‬ ‭‬

One final note. Draw close to God through reading and memorizing His Word. When His Word is hidden in your heart, you will naturally integrate it into your prayers. The MOST transcendent prayer experiences that I have are when I pray God’s Word back to Him! The communication reaches a whole different level. When we pray the Word [which is Jesus],the Spirit intercedes with the Father and we are plugged into the most powerful circuit in the universe.

Praying God’s Word with a clean heart engages the power of the Trinity.
