To Live A Satisfying Life—Part 3: What Does 100% Surrender Look Like?

Share

Yesterday we discussed that 100% surrender to God is our key to living our most fully satisfying life. To discover God’s answer, we must read His Word. His powerful satisfaction is only possible when we do it HIS way. Remember, the secularization of God’s Word (coming to Him on our own terms) will only lead us to worship some other “god.” That entity is powerless to satisfy us!

God’s Word has a simple instruction about how we begin to be satisfied:

Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” ‭‭

Psalms‬ ‭37‬:‭4‬ ‭‬

You see, we willingly surrender to what we believe will give us joy. Isn’t it interesting that the Bible connects delighting in God as His way for us to attain the great desires of our heart?

So, what does it mean to “delight” in the Lord? When you fully delight in the Lord, you will 100% surrender to Him because you believe He is your source of greatest pleasure, satisfaction, and joy.

Does GOD give you the greatest pleasure, satisfaction and joy??? What do you look forward to the most? For year after year of my Christian life, I never knew what it meant to delight in God. I delighted in—sports, work, my children, relationships, my home, looking good—you name it! My “worship” of God was not worship at all—it was merely a ritual. God was not who I adored. Reading His Word was a chore. Praying was not pleasurable; rather, it was my last resort when I was in over my head, or to demonstrate my “holiness” to others.

Bottom line: I didn’t delight in the Lord because I didn’t think He was delightful!

But, Oh, my friend—when we learn to delight in God and His Word, we discover great hidden treasure! This treasure is found in God who loves like no other because—He IS love! (1 John 4:8) The instructions to discover this love-relationship (after you have received the gift of salvation) are found throughout His Word.

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.” ‭‭

Psalms‬ ‭1‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭‬‬

Maybe you don’t feel delight when you read God’s Word. I know I didn’t for a long time. So what changed? God began to reveal the incredible richness of His goodness. So many of the Psalms remind us of God’s goodness:

“Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name!

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits

Who forgives all your iniquities,

Who heals all your diseases,

Who redeems your life from destruction,

Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,

Who satisfies your mouth with good things…

…so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s!!!

The Lord executes righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed.

The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” ‭‭

Psalms‬ ‭103‬:‭1‬-‭6‬, ‭8‬, ‭10‬-‭12‬ ‭‬‬

As God continually opens my eyes to His goodness, I desire to pursue Him with an even greater passion. Who doesn’t want someone THAT good??? Pursuing God means we desire Him more than we desire our own way. As a result, His Word and our relationship with Him become our most important reason for living.

The pursuit of God is more satisfying than any relationship (including even my children) OR any material accomplishment. I long to give others the keys to this relationship. Tomorrow I will share some simple and practical ways to help you build your own pursuit of God.

The passionate pursuit of God will produce the greatest satisfaction!

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
