The Way, The Truth, The Life

Yesterday, we discussed how, when Jesus is Lord of our life, we may create a little piece of Heaven here on earth. In John Chapter 14, Jesus spoke of a great gathering together of His people at the end of the age. But isn’t it amazing that EVEN NOW—through His presence in us—we can draw in people and show them the great joy it is to be with Jesus??? The Bible teaches that our great purpose is to glorify God. This enables us to give folks a wonderful preview of how glorious it is going to be to one day live in the presence of Christ without the stain of sin. Jesus said:

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.”

John 14:1-4

Jesus said “where I am, there you may be also,” and demonstrated that the entire focus of Heaven is being united with HIM. Heaven is heaven not because of streets of gold, or pearly gates, or even the presence of angels. Heaven is heaven because Jesus is there. We can take comfort in knowing that even as He prepares a place for us—Jesus also prepares US for that PLACE. That preparation does not mean we are earning our salvation—no—that transaction happens the moment we are born again! Rather, it is the process of sanctification so we can better fulfill our purpose to glorify God. 

In response to the above statement of Jesus, Thomas asked Him “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” To which Jesus made this stunning reply:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” 

John 14:6

In this statement, Jesus didn’t say that He would SHOW us a way; He said that HE IS the WAY. He didn’t promise to TEACH us the truth; He said HE IS the TRUTH. Jesus didn’t say He was offering to show us the SECRETS to life; He said that HE IS the LIFE. When Christ is IN US, and we are passionate about living in loving obedience to Him, we get to live in His way, His truth and His life. In other words—Jesus dominates the WAY we live; He is the guiding TRUTH in our life and He is the center of our LIFE. Christ in us makes us a beacon of hope. Our life is an oasis in the desert. So then:

• When someone shares with us: “I feel like I’m wandering; I don’t know where I’m going.”
  • They should be able to look at us and clearly SEE—Jesus is the WAY of peace, purpose, and satisfaction.
• When someone tells us, “I’m confused; and I don’t even know how or what to think.”
  • They should be able to observe our life and KNOW—Jesus is the refreshing, life-giving truth worth living by.
• When someone is in despair and says, “I feel like I’m dead inside and I don’t know if I can go on!”
  • They should be able to SEE the supernatural fruit of His Spirit in us and KNOW—Jesus is the source of life and the wellspring of all goodness.

My friend…

• Without Jesus as YOUR WAY—there is nowhere certain to go and no certainty in where you’re going.
• Without Jesus as YOUR TRUTH—there is no certainty in ANY knowledge.
• Without Jesus as YOUR LIFE—there is no certainty in living. 

Jesus must be the predominant WAY we follow, the greatest TRUTH we believe, and the only LIFE in which we passionately live and hope.

Jesus is the exclusive way, truth, and life—the only pathway to God the Father, the true God in Heaven. Salvation through Christ is an all-or-nothing deal. Why would we choose any other way, believe any lesser truth, or rely on anyone who is incapable of giving us life? Our loving Savior deserves first place in every part of our life!

Making Jesus the Lord of every hour is the best decision we make all day long—He IS our best way; He IS our greatest truth; and He IS our only life!
