I first heard the term “blessable” in a message by Pastor Kenny Francis and as a result, I asked God to show me if I was blessable. He is so good to teach us through His Word!!!
God’s Word teaches us that to live a TRULY blessed life, we must be blessable.
Now mind you, if you look around, you can see that many of God’s blessings—including life itself, and the basic necessities are given to ALL—irrespective of their relationship with God. Indeed, the Bible confirms that God “makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” (Matthew 5:45)
BUT—there is a huge advantage for those who are blessable!
Before I speak to the advantages, let me explain what it means to be “blessable.” Remember the devotional from December 2, where we talked about “The Gift of Trusting God?” In a nut-shell, being “blessable” is living according to God’s will. When we are the children of the Heavenly Father, Jesus said He is even better at giving blessings than we are at blessing our own children:
“What man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”
Matthew 7:9-11
Thus, when we are God’s children, to be “blessable” means we choose to live in conformity to His will; that is, to do life HIS way—out of our LOVE for Him. Then, like a trusting child, we experience a deeper and more satisfying layer of blessings than if we are living in rebellion. Our level of surrender to God’s will increases our ability to be blessed by Him and, in fact, increases our ability to experience the blessings He has already given us. We are appreciative children. We are children who are available for the Father’s blessings. His blessings become abundant, personal, and richly satisfying.
Without GOD, His blessings are never satisfying.
The prophet Jeremiah wrote:
“Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.”
Jeremiah 6:16
As children of God, we have the ability to experience all the blessings of His Spirit!
“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.”
Galatians 5:22-23

Hi Kimberly. I wanted to share this story of being blessable though I had not considered that thought before. I used to teach in the elementary school and middle school. I learned quickly I wasn’t an elementary teacher but I taught Spanish one yr. and the next year, French. I also ended up working in middle school for 4 years. As a young person I taught high school and middle school. Elementary school was so hard and long suffering for me. Even middle school had its moments but I liked it. Eventually I stopped teaching due to Covid and concerns about my health. However, last spring I got the courage to go back as a sub working in all the schools. In the past week I have been blessed by 2 encounters with high school aged boys who apologized for their behavior from their younger days. It was so touching and healing for me to have those conversations. I feel God is blessing me in my role as a substitute. Perhaps in this role since I don’t have the pressure and stress, I am more available to listen and show concern for others.
Have a blessed day!
Thank you for sharing, Sharon! God is so good to give us soooo many gifts! Thank you for sharing yourself with children! Stay blessable! 🙂 ~Kimberly
