If you had treatable cancer, wouldn’t you want to know about it as soon as possible? Would you be OFFENDED by the diagnosis or, be GRATEFUL? Would you refuse treatment? It would be incomprehensible for someone who was diagnosed with cancer and offered a treatment to refuse the life-saving cure—wouldn’t it?
Yet—many do exactly this—with their soul.
While we take our physical health very seriously, our spiritual health is FAR more important.
We were designed with a body, soul, and spirit. We are all either spiritually alive or spiritually dead. Spiritual death is caused by sin. It is like spiritual cancer! The Bible says that when we sin—our spirit man—dies. As long as our physical body is alive, we still have the opportunity to avoid spiritual death. After our body dies—it’s too late. Physical death, without receiving Christ’s gift of salvation—makes spiritual death—terminal. Spiritual death is eternal. The Bible makes it clear that every human has been diagnosed with sin-induced cancer and thus, ALL are headed for ETERNAL death.
“All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23
“The soul that sins shall die.”
Ezekiel 18:4b
But—Jesus came to give us spiritual LIFE. Jesus said:
“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
John 10:10
Jesus came to save us from the exacting justice we deserve.
“For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
I Thessalonians 5:9
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 https://bible.com/bible/114/rom.6.23.NKJV
The gift of salvation provides deliverance from the consequence of sin. We are saved from both the power and the penalty of sin. Only God can remove sin and deliver us from sin’s penalty.
Our good works will NEVER save us!
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Titus 3:5-7
Like cancer, if we ignore our sin—then we accept our death sentence and will spend eternity apart from Jesus. We must turn to the Great Physician, who will permanently heal us from the sting of death. When we are born again, our soul and spirit are born into the family of God. We are cancer free with no chance of remission!!! We are enabled to live out the rest of our physical life with the peace that passes understanding in any circumstances. Salvation of our soul through Christ heals the deepest and most important part of who we are—the part that lasts forever! We now possess the greatest hope. The evidence that we possess this great hope is demonstrated by our great love for God and for others. We long to share the cure for spiritual cancer with everyone we know! [If you had the cure for physical cancer you would share it, wouldn’t you?]
When Jesus restores our soul to Himself; He LIVES in us, and the fruits of His Spirit flow THROUGH us!
