Yesterday, we were reminded of what an encouragement it is to know that someone is praying for us. As I was praying this morning, God took me to the Scripture and reminded me of the great prayers of Paul the Apostle. It was almost like God was saying to me, “Kimberly, these prayers are inspired for you to grow your own prayer life for others!” Wow—I’d never thought about that before.
Ah, but God is so good—not just in giving us the gift of prayer—but also in teaching us how to use it. Prayer is like being handed a high-powered weapon, and the Bible is like our YouTube video instruction on how to put it to use. We use God’s inspired Word to shape our thinking and our words of prayer so they are sent like mighty arrows from the throne room of God—straight to the target!
I want my prayers to be on target—don’t you?
So, as I was praying for my fellow warriors in Christ, God led me to the following prayers—to make my own:
[M]ay the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 15:5-6
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
I…do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead… Ephesians 1:15-22
As I pray for unity in the church for the glory of God—for fullness of joy, peace, and hope in the power of the Spirit, wisdom and revelation in the mind of God, spiritual enlightenment, knowledge of the rich inheritance we share, and growth in our use of the power of God—I am in awe. Jesus is the Word who has been since before the beginning, and He spoke all things into being. Our prayers can be as powerful as creation and the resurrection.
