Love Stronger Than Your Circumstances

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, we dedicate several of the next devotionals to the great experience of love. I pray you are blessed in God’s marvelous love!  ~Kimberly Faith

Relationships are so often formed based primarily upon physical attraction, compatibility, financial stability, emotional necessity and/or intellectual synergy; with little regard for the deepest need of our soul—that is, a deep spiritual connection. If we choose a marriage partner without a strong GOD-connection, we are headed for failure because we are choosing love which is based upon physical circumstances. Thus, when we “fall in love,” WHAT are we falling in love WITH? Think about what attracts you to another person and ask yourself if you would still love them if they didn’t have those same physical assets or attributes. Would you love them if their muscles were saggy, if they lost their hair, if their face was wrinkly, if they lost their profession, if they didn’t have a nice house, if they lost their profession, or if they were no longer that “trophy” spouse? Put the shoe on the other foot…do you want someone to fall out of “love” with YOU based upon YOUR circumstances?

Wouldn’t it be FAR better to fall in love with someone who would ALWAYS be crazy about you?

Is this possible?

Short answer: IT IS!!! But only when we understand that REAL LOVE is NOT based on circumstances. Real love is supernatural and it is based on One Who never changes; that is,GOD! We must come to terms with the fact that—without God—we will NEVER find uncircumstantial love. When I say “supernatural love” I mean “love that exceeds the boundaries of our physical circumstances.” Don’t you want the deep kind of soul-love that every human desires—the kind of love that exists independent of your circumstances? Well, my friend, this kind of love necessarily involves God—because we humans are all merely subjects in a kingdom ruled by circumstance.

God is not subject to circumstance.

God, who is the definition of love—is the ONLY ONE who is unchanged by circumstances. He is ageless. Time means nothing to Him. He has self-sustaining power. God is unfailingly beautiful. He is richer than any king who has ever lived. And…God’s nature is love; no circumstance changes His love. For all these reasons, doesn’t it make sense that our top priority for falling in love should be first to seek a relationship with GOD? Then, if we desire to be loved like God loves, we should seek a relationship with someone who is completely in love with God!

Why don’t we then???

Well, often because we have been deceived by the enemies of our soul. The Bible identifies “the lusts of the flesh, the lusts of the eyes, and the pride of life” as mechanisms that lure us away from the love of the Father.

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.”

(‭‭I John‬ ‭2:15-16)

When both members in a relationship love God GREATEST, their love is a sacred trust built upon HIS love and is unchanged by circumstances that typically tear relationships apart. Passionately loving God produces selflessness, confidence, contentment, security, trust, humility—which are the opposite of the characteristics which tear down relationships—selfishness, jealousy, dissatisfaction, insecurity, suspicion, pride, etc. True love can be found when two people enter the relationship with GOD as the center of each individual.

The greatest love experience in any relationship is when two become one within the love of Christ.

“We love Him because He first loved us.” ‭‭

(1 John‬ ‭4:19‬)
