Every evening I try to take some time to read the news. Usually, the news isn’t great. In fact, if I didn’t know God, I would worry myself sick about the future of the world my children and grandchildren will have to live in. It seems worse than ever!
But, then…there is GOD…and the marvelous promises of His Word. HE gives me so much hope!
In my Bible reading, I usually struggle through much of the Pentateuch (first five books of the Old Testament). However, as I’ve been going through it this time, before I begin reading, I’ve asked God to bless the reading of His Word. The difference has been remarkable. The presence of the Holy Spirit is making the Word alive and personal to me—even a book as heavy as Leviticus! So—what does this side note have to do with making the world a better place?
In reading through Deuteronomy, I was reminded of God’s faithfulness to His people. That includes you and me! He made the following precious promise to His born again children who—love Him with all their heart and—demonstrate it by living according to His Word:
Therefore KNOW that the Lord your God, He is God, the FAITHFUL God who keeps covenant and mercy for a THOUSAND GENERATIONS with those who love Him and keep His commandments.
Deuteronomy 7:9
Did you read that??? God is faithful to a THOUSAND generations to those who LOVE Him and KEEP His commandments! I was stoked when I read that. My friend, there is no better place where we gain hope than in the presence of God and the wisdom of His Word!
God gave us His Word to reconcile us to Him and He is NOT thwarted by the evil of this world!
This world’s culture is controlled by the enemy. In that context, we will never “make the world a better place.” However, what we CAN do is to transform our life and become more like Christ. There is no one who has ever lived in the history of the world who made more of a POSITIVE impact—than Jesus Christ. He commanded us to be like HIM. He commanded us to go into all the world and preach the gospel then to make disciples. This is the Great Commission. Our first order of business for carrying out the Great Commission is with our own children and grandchildren! When we belong to God – – heart, soul, and mind – – we are an influence and an example of God’s faithfulness to EVERYONE we meet!
Our submission to Christ produces a powerful impact on others that is never wasted nor forgotten!
God gave us His Word to draw us deeper into His presence and to work powerful transformation upon us and those we influence. When we allow God to transform our life, His promises are multiplied to a thousand generations. (Deuteronomy 7:9) The Bible also says:
And it shall be that if you earnestly obey My commandments which I command you today, to love the Lord your God and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul, then I will give you the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil. And I will send grass in your fields for your livestock, that you may eat and be filled.
Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, like the days of the heavens above the earth.
Deuteronomy 11:13-15, 18-21
Each time a soul receives the gift of salvation, the King of heaven indwells another mortal.
Another light is born to shine the message of the Gospel to a lost and dying world. Knowing this truth (to personally appropriate and share the Gospel) is the greatest inheritance we can leave for our children and grandchildren. “The world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” I John 2:17
