Have You Found The Way to Peace?

The U.S. had armed forces in Afghanistan for over two decades after the brutal attacks of 9/11. Then, on February 29, 2020, the U.S. signed a “peace” deal with the Taliban. It was a deal made with the devil. This became apparent when, on August 15 2021, the Taliban overran Kabul. On August 30, 2021, Army MAJ Gen Chris Donahue was the last service member to leave Afghanistan. It was only 20 short years from when the Al-Qaeda operatives—based out of Afghanistan—killed close to 3,000 Americans on U.S. soil. https://www.cfr.org/timeline/us-war-afghanistan. Although the goal of the agreement with the Taliban was to make peace, I think we must ask,

“How did anyone really believe that peace was possible with people whose fundamental beliefs involve Jihad?

My friends who served in Afghanistan and saw the horrors of the Taliban up close…knew this “peace” accord would never work. Peace is not possible with a religious-state who believe paradise is only guaranteed by an act of murdering “infidels.” Ah, my friend, peace, in general—is fragile. Whether it’s peace within a nation, or peace in our home—amongst this fallen world—it requires work and an unshakeable foundation. In fact…

Unless peace is based on a foundation of absolute truth, it will never last.

Every religion and every individual claims to have some version of “truth.” We all have a set of beliefs that represent the way we think we should live, that define who we are, and give us purpose. Who is right? Has your version of truth brought YOU peace? Mine never did. I never found inexplicable and total peace until I surrendered to Jesus as my Lord. But, I had to be willing to take myself off the throne of my life first. Now I am able to look to THE “Prince of Peace” for peace. (Isaiah 9:6) Jesus said:

“I am the way and the TRUTH and the life.”

John‬ ‭14:6‬

Jesus is both the GIVER of truth and the FOUNDATION for truth; thus, I need not worry about losing my peace based on circumstances, culture, or the whim of mankind. The Prince of Peace is “the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews‬ ‭13:8‬) When we know His Word and work it deep into our heart, the Bible says we have GREAT peace.

“Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble.”

(Psalms‬ ‭119:165‬)

Grounding our heart and mind in the truth of God’s Word makes HIM the stalwart guardian of our peace. Then, His promise for peace gives us absolute hope:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will GUARD your HEARTS and your MINDS in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians‬ ‭4:6-7‬

What amazing comfort to know that we can possess peace so great we can’t even wrap our mind around it! No enemy in the world can defeat Christ. Indeed, He defeated humanity’s greatest enemy—death! Through the GIFT OF SALVATION Jesus, the Prince of Peace, makes our spirit alive and dwells within us.

Then, when circumstances threaten to unravel our peace, we can KNOW God is our greatest refuge!

“You keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.”

Isaiah 26:3-4
