God’s Wisdom For Our Real, Everyday Problems

wisdom

When we live in complete surrender to God and His wisdom, it is always amazing how He will guide us moment by moment. Let me give you an example from a few years ago.

I was dreading a legal research project and on a Saturday morning, I sat down to begin doing it when I realized I had not asked God how HE wanted to order my day.  So I began to talk with Him and He suddenly gave me an idea for a new song. I began writing. Almost immediately after I was finished, He brought my attention to someone who really needed encouragement. After spending a glorious hour with this person, who was so thankful that I’d stopped by, I began having nagging anxiety about my undone research project. But God still didn’t give me peace about diving back into it.

Since I really wanted to spend some time with my son, I invited him and his friend (visiting from Sweden) to go hiking. What I didn’t know was that this young man believed himself to be an atheist. While we were marveling together in Creation, we had an amazing discussion about the existence of God. We discussed the immense faith it takes to be an atheist—and to believe that everything came from nothingness or disorder. It was remarkable. I could tell by his questions, that for the first time in his life, he was questioning his beliefs. He was curious about Jesus which that led to sharing the Gospel—which he had never heard before!

By the time we got back, the day was nearly gone and I ended the day at the home of another attorney friend of mine. And—well, you won’t believe what happened! As I was lamenting about my looming research project, she looked at me and laughed. She explained she had just completed the same exact research and would gladly share it with me! Oh. My. Good God! I knew that He had just done a miracle! I knew that I would have spent the entire day working on this project. But because God takes care of us when we simply trust Him—in only fifteen minutes—I had everything that I needed!

You see, my friend, that is how God works out our day—when we do things HIS way!

When we seek Him FIRST and desire to do His will more than our own—He orders our steps HIS way. He is better at our life than we are! Rather than worry that things won’t work out, we simply stay busy at what He wants us to do and anticipate how HE will work out what we think we need to do! Sure, sometimes we have to do the hard research projects—but God knows more than we do about what we need to do. We should ask Him FIRST!

The more we live in HIS wisdom, the less we want to rely upon our OWN.

If you don’t know how to find God’s wisdom—it is all in His Word. Let me give you a few of my favorites:

  1. Daily seek to dwell in God’s Presence: When our greatest fear in life is losing the sense of God’s presence—we will have HIS wisdom.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭9‬:‭10‬ ‭NKJV
  1. Be humble: When we live in humility, we are drawn close to God and filled with HIS wisdom.

“When pride comes, then comes shame; but with the humble is wisdom.” ‭‭

Proverbs‬ ‭11‬:‭2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
  1. Constantly remind yourself of your DESPERATE need for God: When we understand and appreciate just how much we NEED God and how we are NOTHING without Him—He fills us with HIS wisdom and strength.

“Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— that, as it is written, ‘He who glories, let him glory in the Lord’.”‬‬

1 Corinthians‬ ‭1‬:‭25‬-‭31‬ ‭NKJV
  1. Love Him by making Him the center of your life and ask OFTEN for HIS wisdom: God desires to give His wisdom to those who love Him—we need to just ask!

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” ‭‭

James‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

God’s wisdom is unfathomable and He desires to bless us with it—far beyond what we can ever ask for or imagine!

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
