Discovering Your Worth

Worth

Did you know that seeking God with all your heart, soul, and mind will reveal your true worth? God made you. He believes you were worth dying for so that you could be reconciled to Him through His marvelous gift of salvation.

Do you know anyone who loves you like God?

If someone had asked me that question 12 years ago, I would have said that I was afraid to know God because my view of Him at that time had been shaped by His enemies.

But through His goodness, He awakened my passion to seek Him. Now, He continually satisfies the desperate need of my soul. Furthermore, knowing God has helped me to discover my worth.

For too many years I tried to find my worth through the affirmation of other people. For example, I tried to find my value in relationships with men–so I worked slavishly to be successful, clever, and beautiful–just to be valued and loved. When that didn’t work out, I had children. While they were a wonderful gift—that didn’t give me a sustaining sense of value either. What I didn’t realize is that no one could give me the value I was searching for–except God. I couldn’t even give it to myself! No amount of money I spent on myself or lavished on others could give me the value I needed. Why not???

Well, God made us in HIS image; thus, to find our worth—we MUST have a deep and satisfying relationship with Him.

When you create or design art, music, poetry, a home, a business—you know every detail of it—inside and out. Because God made us–He knows us like no one else. In fact, He knows us better than we know ourselves. And—when we know Him–we know who we are.

Without God, we are left to discover who we are through the clouded mirror of other people’s perceptions.

We miss the mark of the greatness God created in us and we are left to become what others think we should be. It’s crazy that we allow the opinions of people—who don’t even know who they are themselves—to become the most important influence in shaping who we should become. Simply insane!!! But a deep, rich relationship with God gives us clarity about who He made us to be. Only then can we become exactly who He designed us to be. In Psalm 139, we find one of the most beautiful and moving passages in the Bible to describe God’s knowledge of us:

“O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thoughts afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.

You have hedged me behind and before, and laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.

For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.

My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.

How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭139‬:‭1‬-‭6‬, ‭13‬-‭17‬ ‭NKJV

My friend, if you are seeking to find your value—seek God; He knows you better than anyone.

God is in all the goodness around you. He has given you the gift of salvation. Make sure you have it. He has given you His Word, a love-letter of instruction about how to find Him and live in a close relationship with Him. He has given you the church—a place to build close relationships and camaraderie in the common bond of His Spirit. He has given you the glorious fruits of His Spirit. My friend, passionately pursue a relationship with Him and discover the marvelous person He created! When our greatest worth is found in God, we live in the freedom, satisfaction, wisdom, strength and love of our Creator!

God only created ONE—remarkable YOU!

Discovering our value is a unique and beautiful journey for glorifying God!

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
