ANYONE Can Own The GREATEST Treasure!

Share

treasure

What would you say is THE greatest treasure? Is it Christ? Let’s ask it this way: “What is OUR greatest treasure?” In order to assess WHAT or WHO is our greatest treasure, don’t you think we must ask ourselves, “What would crush me if I lost it?” Is it our spouse? Our child? Our career? A Wall Street crash wiping out all of our savings?

Consider the possibility that the strong connection between what we value most and what gives us the deepest reason for living could also—destroy us.

September 10, 2023, was World Suicide Prevention Day, and in an article published by Cedars Sinai a startling statistic was published:

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), between 2000-2021, suicide rates increased by nearly 40% and suicide was responsible for close to 50,000 deaths, which is about one death every 11 minutes. In 2021, suicide was among the top nine leading causes of death for people ages 10-64 and the second-leading cause of death for people ages 10-14 and 20-34.

This is an astounding statistic in a country where most people have access to basic needs like clean water, food, housing, etc. In fact, even over half of the homeless population own a smartphone with access to the internet! The suicide statistic is also alarming when you consider that with the exception of 9/11 and Pearl Harbor our citizens have NOT experienced the oppression of war in many, many decades. Meanwhile, people like the Syrian refugees, are suffering extreme physical deprivation. According to World Vision FAQ:

  • 6.8 million people are displaced within Syria — the largest number in the world and the highest number of people in need since the start of the conflict.
  • Neighboring Turkey hosts over 3.5 million refugees, the largest refugee population hosted by a single country worldwide.
  • More than 6.5 million children in Syria need emergency aid due to the ongoing conflict.
  • About 2 million Syrian refugee children are out of school.

So why would the population of a country like the United States, which has so much to offer in the way of individual freedom, endless opportunities, and physical resources have such an alarming increase in suicide rates??? Perhaps it is because our culture is increasingly missing the mark about the REASON for our existence. The majority of our population has never been taught they have a soul and a spirit and NEED a relationship with God—more than they need anything else!

The soul of our nation is starving because they have no idea about the remarkable person God made them to be!

Each of us have been given a life worth living! Jesus paid the ultimate price to reconcile us to Him through the gift of salvation. When we daily surrender to God and pursue our relationship with Him as our greatest treasure, then our life has great purpose. If we belong to Jesus, as His children, He has given us the recipe for living in satisfaction:

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. ‭

Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭19‬-‭21‬ ‭NKJV

What is your treasure? If it is your relationship with God, it will never cease to satisfy you. You will know exactly WHO you are and WHAT your purpose is! You will not allow any lesser treasures to stand between you and God. The gift of salvation is not just our treasure in the afterlife; it is our treasure for here and now. Our relationship with God helps us to invest in the things that last forever. Our relationship with God gives us the wisdom and love to invest WISELY in our earthly treasures—like our spouse, children, career and our financial resources. He teaches us how to multiply our joy in them. They are woven into the eternal fabric of the future we will enjoy when we’re gone. What a double blessing!

Jesus gives our soul the treasure of immortality and—deep satisfaction as we travel the broken road of this world.

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
