When my son, Jon, was 16, he started asking for a cat. One dark and stormy night he and his bestie, Liam, brought two kittens home, claiming they were homeless. Skepticism filled my mind, especially since he had been asking for a cat for a year and chose the moment when my house was full of guests to stage his feline coup d’état. Reluctantly, I gave in and grudgingly welcomed Ralph and Lauren into our family.
Ralph quickly formed a deep bond with Jon, above all other humans. He slept with Jon, endured his teasing and daring cat experiments of which I’ll spare you the details. A couple of years later, when Jon left for college, poor Ralph became despondent. He meowed, howled, and constantly sought attention. Every morning during my quiet time, he would climb into my lap, his plump body occupying the entire space, and nudge my hand away from the iPad so that I would pet him instead of typing. He would close his eyes, purring with intensity, likely dreaming of Jon. When Jon returned home for visits, I ceased to exist—it was all about Jon. And when Jon left again, Ralph’s yowling and sulking would begin anew.
Ralph worshiped Jon above all other humans and was an absolute mess without him!
Ralph’s unabashed craving for Jon’s attention reminded me of how experiencing God has also made completely dependent upon His presence. God is the only source that fulfills all my deepest desires and produces unwavering peace. He has proven to be deserving of our utmost pursuit and love. The more I adore Him, the closer our relationship becomes and the more I find I need Him. You see, wholehearted worship of God opens the door to the ultimate love relationship with the perfect, eternal, self-existing, loving, wise, and powerful Heavenly Father. There is no one who gives us what we need like God does. He says:
I am the First and I am the Last; besides Me there is no God.
And who can proclaim as I do? Then let him declare it and set it in order for Me, Since I appointed the ancient people. And the things that are coming and shall come, Let them show these to them.
Do not fear, nor be afraid; Have I not told you from that time, and declared it? You are My witnesses.
Is there a God besides Me? Indeed there is no other Rock; I know not one.
Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, and He who formed you from the womb:
“I am the Lord, who makes all things, Who stretches out the heavens all alone, Who spreads abroad the earth by Myself.”
Isaiah 44:6-8, 24
When you know God, you know this truth—there is none like Him. When I drift from His presence, I yearn for Him desperately. Why? Because I have experienced the greatest relationship on earth and in Heaven! I NEVER want to be without Him. This relationship began when I surrendered and accepted His gift of salvation. When we become God’s child, we are brought into this most remarkable relationship. As we encounter God through reading His Word, praying, and taking an active part in the Church, our love and adoration for Him grows. In fact, our need for Him becomes the most defining and motivating force in our life!
Worship and adoration are essential for building a strong relationship with God because it places us in a position of humility which draws us closer to Him!!!
A strong relationship with God enlightens, comforts, guides, empowers, and satisfies all of our deepest desires. My friend, when we deeply understand and connect with the essence of God and experience His presence, we come to cherish an extraordinary relationship that transcends earthly boundaries of love. Once we encounter this profound connection, we find ourselves yearning to remain strongly intertwined with Him.
Worshiping God builds an insatiable desire for His presence.

What we worship is what we think about most, conform our lives to, obey, and what we adore. We live according to what we worship. If we worship God, His Word and His ways are the center of our life.
