When our heart is fully surrendered to Christ, His Word is the most trustworthy, reliable, comforting, and powerful asset we possess. The benefits of reading, studying, and memorizing it—with a surrendered heart—are beneficially empowering beyond our imagination! We are going to jump right in and list the benefits. As I studied each benefit, I asked myself, “Am I taking advantage of this benefit?” If the answer was “no,” I asked God to reveal what I needed to change in my life. I don’t want to miss out on every opportunity to be blessed by God—do you???
The benefits of God’s Word are presented as a question; the answer is from the Word:
- Are you experiencing God’s Word giving you PEACE? He promises this benefit for those who love His Word
- “Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing causes them to stumble.” Psalms 119:165
- Is God, who is the Creator and Sustainer of the entire universe—your source of WISDOM? This is a benefit of delighting in His Word.
- “Your testimonies also are my delight and my counselors.” Psalms 119:24
- Is God’s Word a critical source of your STRENGTH? This is a benefit of His Word.
- “My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy Word.” Psalm 119:28
- Do you experience true PROSPERITY in ALL you do? This is a benefit of God’s Word:
- “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.” Psalms 1:1-3
- Do you experience the CONFIDENCE of being pure in heart? Obedience to God’s Word keeps us close to Him, where His perfect love casts out fear:
- “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” Psalms 119:9-11
- “Let Your mercies come also to me, O Lord—Your salvation according to Your word. So shall I have an answer for him who reproaches me, for I trust in Your word. And I will walk at liberty, for I seek Your precepts.” Psalms 119:41-42, 45
- Are you experiencing DELIVERANCE from oppressiveness and perilous situations—like unhealthy thoughts and emotions? This is a benefit of God’s Word and remember—Jesus heals mind, body and soul through Himself, the Word. (John 1)
- “Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, And He saved them out of their distresses. He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” Psalms 107:19-20
- “Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.” And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.” The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed.” Matthew 8:5-8
- Do you experience God’s Word as life-sustaining SUSTENANCE for your soul? This is a benefit of His Word.
- “Unless Your law had been my delight, I would then have perished in my affliction. I will never forget Your precepts, For by them You have given me life.” Psalms 119:92-93
- But [Jesus] said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4
- Do you experience God’s Word as your LIGHT, illuminating you and guiding every decision? This is a benefit of His Word.
- “Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.”Psalms 119:105
- “The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.” Psalms 119:130
- “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” John 1:1-4
