When I feel my sense of peace being replaced by anxiety, I know it’s time to retrace my steps and figure out where I left the path of peace. Do you know what I mean?
My friend, what price would you pay for a life of peace?
Many clients come into my office burdened with insurmountable difficulties. They are desperate for peace. No amount of money they spend on their legal situation will buy them peace. Their turmoil is often a great opportunity for me to share the gift of salvation as well as my own personal experience with the peace of God. But if I’m to be credible with others about peace—I must have it myself!
Jesus is the Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
Nothing in the world can buy lasting peace because—God isn’t for sale. If we want peace from the PRINCE of Peace; He must be the KING of our heart. He must be our most important reason for living. We must be living in our purpose and His glory must be our motivation for everything we do. The Bible says:
“What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—PRACTICE these things, and the God of peace will be with you.”
Philippians 4:9
Putting God’s Word into practice—with a HEART in love with Him—places us squarely within the presence of the “God of peace.” We must make the time to read and study God’s Word. We must be in prayer. We must be connected to a local church. And we must engage in strategic surrender in every area of our life. God’s presence must be allowed to permeate every aspect of our life.
The deeper I go in my relationship with God, the more I walk the path of peace. God’s peace is a great gauge for knowing when I’ve left the path of His divine plan. When my mind centers on God and He generates my thoughts—I am full of His peace. God does not suffer from a lack of peace. When our mind is steadfastly fixed on Him—we don’t either!
“Open the gates, that the righteous nation which keeps the truth may enter in. You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, For in YAH, the Lord, is everlasting strength.”
Isaiah 26:2-4
Our HEART is the price for God’s peace to reign in our MIND.
Jesus isn’t asking us to give HIM anything that He hasn’t already given for US. When we’re not experiencing perfect peace, we must consider whether we’ve chosen the wrong peacekeeper.
It is no doubt a struggle to live peacefully in a world full of turmoil but—the threat is LESS about the outward forces that threaten our peace and MORE about the inward forces that seek to occupy the throne of our heart!
We often SAY that God is Lord of our life, but a simple test is the measure of peace we are experiencing throughout the day. If our peace is easily displaced by worry, fear, anger, turmoil, disappointment, etc., then we should consider why our peace is so fragile. Have we made something or someone LESS than GOD our source of our peace?
We are experts at relying upon our own strength, intellect, position, family, friends or even our possessions to secure our peace. However, God is the only one who gives us perfect peace. The Book of Isaiah says,
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”
Isaiah 26:3
God is our perfect peacekeeper! The evidence that we are TRUSTING Him is when we involve Him in EVERYTHING and EVERY SITUATION! We do this when we KNOW He is all-wise, all-powerful and all-loving.
To have perfect peace, we must make God the most important part of who we are and why we live.
There isn’t anyone capable of guarding our peace like God! The decision to allow God to captivate our mind is not just daily–it’s hourly. Throughout the day we can have a running conversation with the God of the Universe and it is there we learn…
GOD is our perfect peacekeeper!
