I recently heard a message by Kenny Francis about the battle for our mind that was so universally powerful, God impressed upon me to share it in a devotional.
Did you know that your mind is a critical battlefield; and Satan—as the prince and power of the airwaves of this earth—wants to control it?
The Bible says:
“And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you ONCE walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience.”
Ephesians 2:1-2 NKJV
So ask yourself: “Who now has DOMINION over my mind?” Well, after we are born again, Satan loses his dominion over us! But, because he is the prince over the air waves, there is a real, ongoing battle for our mind. Unfortunately, we don’t get the option to step out of it. Thus, we must put on the whole armor of God. Satan takes this warfare very, very seriously, so the Bible warns us:
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.”
I Peter 5:8-9 NKJV
We are ALWAYS under attack, but God has given us everything we need to win. After we are born again, Jesus gives us the power to take CAPTIVE all the thoughts of depression, fear, hate, unforgiveness, and ANY thought that is not from God:
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,”
II Corinthians 10:3-5 NKJV
When we know Christ as our Lord and Savior AND we are actively making Him the center of our life by living in obedience—we become victorious in the battle for their mind. We have a personal testimony that reflects both truth and the love of God. His love is complete selflessness. Our reputation is love, much like the Apostle Paul:
“For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in POWER, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.”
I Thessalonians 1:5 NKJV
This “power” is the “power of love.” Furthermore, the evidence of living in the Holy Spirit, is producing the fruits of GOD’s Spirit—love, joy, peace…etc. We cannot produce the fruits of the HOLY Spirit when our mind is clogged with the poopoo of God’s enemy! The weapons of our warfare must include “pulling down the strongholds” which are ways of thinking that are contrary to the Word of God.
When our heart is right with God, our face reflects His presence.
We will always have “imaginations” or “rationalizations” which are set against God because our flesh is never any better than the day we are born again. Indeed, after Paul had been born again for more than 20 years, he made this remarkable revelation:
“For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. For I delight in the law of God after the inward man.”
Romans 7:18-22 KJV
BUT—just because we have a thought—does not make it true. We must examine each thought to discern whether it is contrary to God’s Word. That’s why Paul wrote “the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.” We can’t allow the lusts of the flesh to control our mind. After we are born again we have the power to tear down our strongholds—our addictions to unhealthy thinking, excessive desire for worldly comfort, entertainment, sex, drugs, alcohol, money, laziness, complacency, etc.
Strongholds are the fleshly things that control us.
So, how do we cast out the imaginations? Though a strong relationship with God. We focus on HIS promises. We learn to trust HIS Word. Believing His Word, builds our faith in His promises. God generates faith through His Word.
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Romans 10:17 NKJV
We overcome by the sword of the spirit which is the Word of God. We must make God our center. This begins by the renewing of our mind THROUGH presenting our body a living sacrifice. We live as Jesus, who said, “Not my will but thine.” Paul wrote:
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
Romans 12:1-2 NKJV
Brothers and sisters in Christ, the battle of the mind begins when we determine to 100% surrender our life to Christ. Until there is surrender to Christ, there will be no change and we will remain prisoners of our mind. We must be DETERMINED to win the spiritual battle by allowing Christ to be in control. Take some time to study what it means to put on the whole armor of God. We have amazing promises from God. He WILL guard our heart and mind—if we let Him:
“Be anxious for nothing, but in EVERYTHING by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the PEACE of God, which surpasses all understanding, will GUARD your hearts and MINDS through Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV
