Do Science And Reason Give You An Answer For Love?

In an age of science, technology, and philosophical reason, popular culture bombards us with the ideology that faith in God is irrelevant. It is postulated that “blind faith” in a God you can’t see, is outdated because “progressive” thinkers rely on advanced technological and scientific discoveries to answer all of the big questions of life.

But all of the technology and scientific discoveries of the world can’t answer the big, haunting question about mankind’s desperate need for love.

Love transcends the laws of science and the physical universe; which means there must be more than just this physical universe. In other words, there must be a spiritual realm; which means acknowledging a higher power than man. This knowledge runs afoul of the secular humanist view that man is god. We are born with a desire to love and be loved but science can only explain it to the extent it facilitates the procreation and furtherance of the human race. We instinctively know there is more to love than that most basic reason. This inability of science to explain love triggers an anxiety mechanism within us.

Would you believe that the Bible says you were born KNOWING you have a desperate need for love?

God IS love and He placed the knowledge of Himself [Who is love] inside each of us. (1 John 4:8; Romans 1:19-21) Science, technology and indeed—even religion—can’t give us the kind of love we need. Only GOD can love us as we were intended to experience love. When we are born again and receive the gift of salvation, we become alive to love. We are enabled to love on a spiritual level which transcends any physical manifestation of love.

But, keep in mind, that even after we’re born again, we can choose to live devoid of real love; that is to live religiously without a deep relationship with God. It’s much like living in a marriage without love. If we look for meaning in our career, money, and relationships—apart from God we will be as deeply dissatisfied as a person who does not know God at all. This was my experience for many years!

It was like drinking salt water in the desert.

But when our faith in God translates to loving Him with all our heart, soul, and mind, His presence permeates every area of our life. His love forms the basis in our quest for meaning, identity, hope, and for every pursuit. He is the only one worthy of our greatest passion in life. God told Isaiah:

“To whom will you liken Me, and make Me equal and compare Me, that we should be alike?

They lavish gold out of the bag, And weigh silver on the scales; they hire a goldsmith, and he makes it a god; they prostrate themselves, yes, they worship. Though one cries out to it, yet it cannot answer nor save him out of his trouble.

Remember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done.

Indeed I have spoken it; I will also bring it to pass. I have purposed it; I will also do it.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭46‬:‭5‬-‭11

Science and reason—without God—means man must be god. But mankind has been given the knowledge of his need for love. God is that love. God provided the gift of salvation so we could know Him, and thus, know love. After we come to know Him and we make Him our greatest passion—we discover love greater than we ever imagined.

Man’s knowledge will never transcend God’s love: His love is greater than our imagination.

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
