Who Says You Shouldn’t “Fall In Love?”

Taylor Swift once said, “We should love, NOT—fall in love, because everything that falls, gets broken.” I think she’s absolutely right, unless—the ONE you love the MOST—is God. Without God’s love at the center of ALL of your human love-relationships, that “love” will eventually break you. For many of us [including myself], it’s unfortunate that we must be completely broken before we’ll seek the greatest source of love—which is God. Don’t wait—do it now! It is 100% true that the person you love more than you love God—WILL break you!

Furthermore, your unrealistic expectation for love will likely break the person who is the object of your affection.

To embrace God is to fall into REAL love.

Our culture—which has collectively rejected God—has substituted a cheap replication of love which is slowly starving the collective soul of mankind. Without God, the only “love” we can access is based upon what we can get to temporarily take away our loneliness, to give us comfort, and to fulfill our physical desires. We justify deviating from God’s Word all in the name of this cheap-thrill “love.” This is not the love God intended for us; rather, it’s a deceptive lie which is masquerading as love.

In fact, this is the polar opposite of love—the opposite of love is selfishness!

As long as we reject God, we will never experience love because our “love” will involve violating God’s law. Love is the fulfilling of God’s law. (Romans 13:8-13) Think about it—each of the Ten Commandments boils down to love. When we love, we don’t steal, murder, commit adultery, etc., right? Jesus said that if we love Him we will keep His commandments. (John 14:15) In fact, if you claim to love someone by violating God’s Word, you are actually destroying them because you’re taking them further from God—who is love. God is light, and His love is NOT in us IF we’re “making love” in the darkness! (1 John 1:5)  This delusion of finding love while walking in darkness produces the hellish relationships I see in my office. Is that the kind of love you want? I suspect this is the kind of love Taylor Swift was talking about.

My dear friend, God has an indescribably more beautiful love-life planned for you!

The miraculous benefit of falling in love with God, is that when you do, you are equipped to love another person the way they need to be loved. You see, when you are completely captivated by God’s love, YOUR need for love is satisfied to the degree that you desire to GIVE love without ANY expectations. God’s love meets your greatest expectations for love and frees you to experience love—the way God does—by unconditionally loving others. Perhaps you think that’s impossible; however, that’s because our culture has given us a defective and insufficient understanding of GOD.

To know God as He intends for us to know Him, we must look to His Word to see who He is instead of believing what the world says about Him.

God is love. (1 John 4:8) To experience LOVE, we must know GOD.

“We have come to KNOW and to BELIEVE the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”

(1 John‬ ‭4:16)‬

To love, is to abide in God. God is holy and therefore, HIS love is holy and is described as follows:

“Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.” ‭‭

I Corinthians‬ ‭13:4-8

To find this kind of supernatural love, we must have a relationship with God. This begins with receiving His GIFT OF SALVATION. This is where the magic of love begins. Then after we are born again, like a good marriage, we must be consistently and passionately pursuing our relationship with God! This is the most important relationship we possess. We must guard it, nurture it, and be intentional about it. It is the key to all of our other relationships. Our relationship with God requires our time. It requires our focus. My dear friend, if you want love, you must pursue God. If you are pursuing a relationship and looking for love—without God—you will NEVER find what you seek. But…

When you fall in love with God, you will fall into REAL love.

Basic Bible Concepts: Part 9 Spiritual Growth

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you, when they revile and persecute you and say, all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake, rejoice and be exceeding. Glad for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” ~Matthew 5:10-12
