How I Got Caught Up In A Fool’s Gold Scheme

Fool’s gold is a mineral found in rock that looks like gold but is basically worthless. What if you were fooled into thinking it was valuable and  spent your whole life stock-piling it? No one would think of your heap of glittering “treasure” as a life well spent unless, they too, were a fool. My friend, I think that for most of my life, I have been that fool. I slaved away to gather the things that I can NEVER take with me. I am so thankful that several years ago, after—I had amassed an enviable amount of wealth and a very successful career—God gave me a wake-up call! He revealed that these greatest treasures of mine were just like a pile of fools gold and—the REAL treasure was still waiting to be uncovered:

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”

(Matthew 13:44)

Nearly my whole life had been poured into attaining the treasures I could see; that is, the treasures the world promotes as valuable. I believed the greatest treasures were my career, success, and wealth. But that’s only because I had never discovered God’s secret treasure. That treasure is reserved for those who are God’s children and have surrendered to Him. When we adopt God’s perspective, the greatest treasures are revealed.

Why was I so blind for so long???

Well truthfully, I’d never spent the necessary time to grow close enough to God to have my spiritual eyes opened to His priceless goodness. Thus, all my passion for life had been spent pursuing what I could see—was valuable. God in His mercy was patient with me! He revealed His goodness to me and I discovered His treasure. I also discovered I’d been robbing myself—my entire life. What was this great treasure?

The FIRST and GREATEST treasure is the Creator of all earthly and heavenly treasures: God!

After my first revelation of His goodness, I became like a miner discovering my first vein of REAL gold. I never want to go back to mining for fool’s gold. What does the great treasure of God’s presence look like? Well, it’s overflowing with the things that money can’t buy—real love, uncircumstantial joy, deep peace, soul satisfaction, good sleep, decreased anxiety, etc. When we possess these priceless treasures, God opens the floodgates and enables us to share them with others who are starving for God’s presence. There is nothing in my life which is more precious than—my time with God and my time sharing the gift of God’s presence with others.

And still yet, in addition to these amazing treasures we experience on earth, there is even a greater splendor awaiting us. God is preparing unimaginable celestial treasures for those who invest wisely on this earth!

“Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. According to His great mercy, He has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that is imperishable, uncorrupted, and unfading, kept in heaven for you.”

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1:3-4‬

Jesus gave us the great secret for uncovering His treasure:

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:19-21‬ ‭‬‬

God’s supernatural treasures are available to anyone who makes HIM the greatest treasure of his or her heart! Your heart has a God-shaped throne. Nothing else belongs there. Today, give Him 100% of all you are and all you have and—you will enjoy the treasure trove of His love, wisdom, strength and peace.

When God is the greatest treasure of your heart, your riches are immeasurable.
