As children of God, we are granted a unique privilege—the insight into the mystery of His divine will. The Bible declares:
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, having made KNOWN to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself.
Ephesians 1:7-9
Take a moment to ponder whether you desire to comprehend more than what your earthly senses can perceive. When we accept God’s gift of salvation, our soul and spirit are made ALIVE! We are equipped with the ability to grasp knowledge and wisdom that remained hidden as long as we were dead in our sins. We possess a living spirit that can communicate with God! In fact we now have the gift of supernatural faith which is vastly different from mere earthly faith! The veil of spiritual deadness no longer hinders us from hearing and embracing the great wisdom He yearns to unveil.
Think about this for a minute—wouldn’t you like to know more than just what you can perceive with your earthly senses?
It’s noteworthy that this passage refers to God’s will as the “mystery” of his will.
Why?
Because if we are not walking in alignment with the 95% of God’s will which is written in His Word, then—His “mysteries” will remain concealed from us. Even after we are born again, choosing to live our own way means we will dwell in darkness and blindness that keeps us from experiencing His revelations. I, too, wandered in this darkness for twenty years of my Christian life. But God’s goodness drew me to repent. I did a 180 degree turn and began to draw near to His presence through loving obedience.
Next to being born again, obedience is the best decision I make. I say “make” instead of “made” because the decision to live in obedience happens every morning…and must be renewed throughout the day. Our enemies are after us. They do not want us to discover the great and unimaginable richness of God’s presence. We must be consistently putting on the armor of God.
When we love God, we obey His commandments and are brought closer into His presence. In the light of His presence, we are able to walk a path that would otherwise be unthinkable. When we lovingly obey God, He replaces our common sense with His uncommon omniscience. His presence radically changes our life in a way the world cannot understand—
…just like Jesus.
Jesus said He lived to do His Father’s will:
I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
John 6:38
Though Jesus died as a penniless criminal, He lived a life so extraordinary that people still passionately follow Him more than two thousand years after His death and resurrection. His enemies have no explanation for this phenomenon. Why? Because they do not know Him. When we consistently read and study God’s Word with a heart to obey, we make His thoughts—our thoughts. This is where the mysteries of His unwritten will begin to be revealed!
When we live according to God’s WRITTEN will, He reveals the mystery of His UNWRITTEN will!
