“Know that the Lord, He is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.” Psalms 100:3-5
When I’m losing my sense of peace and direction, I like to ask myself, “Kimberly, who is your ‘god’ right now?” It never ceases to amaze me how quickly and inadvertently I remove JESUS from the throne of my heart and replace Him with the “gods” of—work, family, or the self-centered pursuit of self-satisfaction. I focus my passion, hope, and love on my own success, my pride, my job, my family, my looks, my goals, etc., and I abandon a strong sense of living for my one and only glorious purpose.
My friend, whatever occupies our mind and captures our time for the day—this is our god of the present. These gods are unforgiving and cruel. They enslave. We somehow expect to find a greater quality of goodness, love, wisdom, strength, and truth in the gods of this world than we receive from the King of Kings. Otherwise, we wouldn’t pursue them, would we?
This is the grand delusion propagated by our enemies; that is, that God offers us less.
This is why the Bible warns us:
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” 1 John 2:15-17
To love anything more than we love God is worse than just a poor investment of our love. In fact, it could be the difference between life and death for someone else. God gave Moses the first four of the Ten Commandments, which focus on God being the LORD of our life. Later, Jesus gave us the first and greatest commandment: that God be the LORD of our life. If we live in this truth, then the Prince of Peace reigns supreme in our life. We experience satisfaction; we know real love; and we are not ruled by circumstances. We are not starving for attention and success. We are actively engaged in carrying out the Great Commission and making a difference in the eternity of souls.
Ah, my friend, if you are anxious and dissatisfied with your life, then consider.
- Are you born again? Has your soul and spirit been made alive in Christ so you can communicate with your Creator?
- Are you DAILY working to keep Jesus at the center of all you do? Is HE your reason for living? Is HIS glory the purpose of your life?
I promise you, I’ve experienced no greater abundance in my life than when Jesus is at the center of my job, my time, my love, my family and all the ministries He has given me. The closer I get to Him—the less my life is about me. The best blessings are the ones from Heaven…the things money can’t buy. These gifts are given to those who strongly desire to live in the attitudes of Christ.
“[T]he fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23
