Amidst the tumultuous whirlwind of a world in disarray, I find solace in consciously redirecting my greatest hope towards its rightful anchor, GOD. When the grip of hopelessness attempts to tighten its hold, God reminds me: Despair flourishes only when my hope is misplaced in something or someone LESS than HIM. Compared to Him, all other objects of my hope are mere shadows.
God promises us we can ABOUND IN HOPE!
A promise beckons—a promise anchored in the very nature of our Creator, the “God of hope.”
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13
The center of our great sanctuary of hope is God, the fount of hope, the One who orchestrates the symphony of our existence. Amidst these perilous times do you feel your hope faltering. Are you anxious? Are you afraid? What is the one thing or relationship—that you worry about losing most. Will losing it—crush you? When I begin feeling hopeless, I ask myself this question because it allows me to realize my hope has lost its anchor. I need to reset my hope in God. For example, if I’m clinging to the hope of finding boundless love within the frail confines of another human heart, I am destined for disillusionment and disappointment for all are marred by the same sinful human condition. Similarly, if I hitch my aspirations to the fleeting carriages of reputation and riches, one misstep and they will dissipate like the morning mist.
Hope in God NEVER will never make us afraid, anxious, or sad.
Once we identify that we have shifted our hope from God, the remedy is to then realign our hope. My friend, if you are feeling hopeless, seek to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind. Seek Him like your sole source of oxygen—because—He truly is. For those who are born again, when hope falters, when despondency looms, it is not due to some capricious twist of fate in circumstances, but rather, it is a reflection of misplaced hope.
In the words of Psalms:
Lord, make me to know my end, and what is the measure of my days, that I may know how frail I am.
Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, and my age is as NOTHING before You; certainly every man at his best state is but VAPOR.
Surely every man walks about like a SHADOW; surely they busy themselves in vain; He heaps up riches, and does not know who will gather them.
And now, Lord, what do I wait for? MY hope is in YOU.
Psalms 39:4-7 NKJV
God alone is worthy of our GREATEST hope. He should be the cornerstone of our aspirations. The voyage towards placing our hope in God is not mere chance, but a deliberate, faithful journey—a daily surrender of every facet of our existence into His capable hands. When we maintain HIM as the center of all hope, we bear witness to His divine intervention. He parts the tumultuous seas and guides us along the path of peace no matter how formidable the waves. When our focus is unwaveringly fixed upon the God of hope, even when the storms sweep away the temporal trinkets of our life, our hope remains unshaken. Hope in God is an unquenchable flame, a beacon that guides us through the darkest nights.
It is hope in God, and God alone, that prevents us from EVER being hopeless.
Thus, cast out every thought of hoping in anything less than God, and renew our greatest hope in HIM. How do we learn to put our hope in God? We must deliberately and faithfully SURRENDER every part of our life over to Him—every day! Our journey of hope in God begins the moment we are born again. Then, by entrusting every part of our life to Him, we begin to see Him part the waters and lead us on the path of peace. We recognize that God—not our possessions, position, or tribe—is the surest foundation for everything in our life.
When we’re close to the God of hope, we ABOUND in hope!
