What Most Do You Want Others To Know About You?

When I first meet someone, I like to ask a lot of questions so I can know what’s most important to them. When they ask me about myself, I love to talk about my children and I like to share what I do for a living. I love the people my children have become. And—being an attorney is very rewarding—a great mission field! You could say I “glory” in my children and my job. These are a few of my crowning achievements.

But…in even our most remarkable accomplishments, God still has an even greater narrative for us to enjoy!

“Thus saith the Lord:

“Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the Lord.”

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭9:23-24‬

What do you think it means to “glory” in “understanding” and “knowing” God?

It clearly relates back to the great purpose we possess as children of God! If we had been created only for our own glory, then we would have only a finite narrative that would fade not long after we die—or even—before. Wouldn’t it be terrible to feel irrelevant before you’re dead? For example, pinnacle of the Kennedy dynasty was the U.S. Presidency…but who really remembers any details of the family today? It wasn’t that long ago. Who today knows or cares about the thousands of hours of toil and sweat that went into building the wealth and power of this family? Did it make that big of a difference in YOUR life?

But then…think on this….

…..Jesus was a carpenter; Paul was a prisoner; Jeremiah was a fugitive prophet; and David was a shepherd king. Why are THEIR lives memorialized so well that THOUSANDS of years later, MILLIONS of people are still reading about them and what they did? Easy answer: Their lives were woven into the fabric of GOD’S plan. Their lives were lived for a larger purpose than themselves. This is what it means to live for God’s glory. What an opportunity! Today, everything you do can be for God’s glory. Isn’t that amazing???

Seek God and He will give you the opportunity to make eternal ripples in the vast ocean of life.

So whatever position you find yourself in…active duty military, parent, teacher, caregiver, etc., if you are a child of God, you have the extraordinary opportunity to make an eternal impression. My conversations about my children and my job are very natural platforms to share the great works God has done through me—with others—and thus, have my life glorify God.

God is so very worthy of our praise!!!
