This morning, my mind was overwhelmed with the day ahead and I needed focus for prayer. God led me to Psalms 37 and He also reminded of His remarkable promises. As I read, my heart was encouraged and comforted.
God ALWAYS keeps His promises.
So I went back and prayed for God to work the highlighted commands in my life and in those I love; and—I ALSO claimed the promises that follow each one. In brackets are the personalization for me—it may be different for you. Make God’s Word your own!!!
Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. [Help me to not be envious or have ill-will towards those who hurt me, but rather pray for them to know You.] For they shall soon be cut down like the grass.
Delight yourself also in the Lord [Lord, be the greatest desire of my heart], and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him [Lord, YOU do YOU—in ALL I do today,] and He shall bring it to pass.
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; do not fret [Lord as soon as I begin to get angry, help me turn it over to you so it does not grow and turn into something worse]—it only causes harm. For evildoers shall be cut off.
Those who wait on the Lord [Lord, help me to wait for your timing in everything I do today], they shall inherit the earth.
The meek shall inherit the earth [Lord, humble me by Your power, wisdom, and love], and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
The steps of a good man [Lord, may your word be my lamp that lights my path] are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way [may I delight in all your plans for me today and desire them as my most prized possessions]. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand.
The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, and his tongue talks of justice. The law of his God is in his heart [Lord, plant your Word so deeply in my heart that my lips speak with an abundance of your wisdom]; none of his steps shall slide.
When we love God with all our heart, soul, and mind and desire Him more than we desire our own way—we live in the satisfaction and peace of His abundant blessings. God’s best blessings are not physical abundance, but overflowing of the fruits of the Spirit filling our soul and spirit.
“The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength in the time of trouble. And the Lord shall help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in Him.”
Psalms 37:39-40
