As born-again Christians, our life is of critical importance to the lost and dying world; thus, good communication is critical. The Bible makes it clear that our purpose is to glorify God, proclaim the Gospel, and engage in discipleship. For those around us, our communication skills can be the difference between being condemned to eternal death or finding everlasting life. But how much have we tried to learn effective communication??? Does our communication do justice to the sacrifice of Christ? Does our communication properly glorify the magnificent Creator and irresistibly draw others into an eternal relationship with the Heavenly Father?
My friend, our communication has eternal ramifications!
Who better to teach us how to communicate than the one who made us? God’s Word is very instructive about how we should communicate, but the problem is that we often think we already know enough to be effective. I’m guilty! As an attorney, nearly everything I do involves communication. I really thought I had it down. It never occurred to me that I needed to STUDY God’s Word for the purpose of learning how to better communicate. It wasn’t until I was listening to a sermon by Dr. Kenny Francis that I suddenly realized how little I had applied the principles of God’s Word in my day to day communication.
While communication is arguably one of the most powerful tools we possess for ANY meaningful function—work, friendship, worship, ministry, study, and even fun—it certainly should be finely honed for carrying out our eternal purpose!
All of our education tends to focus on attaining KNOWLEDGE without much thought about actually learning skillful COMMUNICATION. You might be great at communications in your profession or with your children, but how clearly do you communicate the Gospel or the principles of God’s Word? Furthermore, does your non-verbal communication and lifestyle speak a different message than your words? If I am raising my voice and being nasty to another attorney in court, what does that communicate about my purpose to shine the light and glory of God?
Ah, my friend, it is learning to communicate well with other humans that makes the knowledge of God and a relationship with Him more authentic to those around us.
We cannot remain content with attaining just the basic communication skills necessary to function within our own familiar tribe. We must challenge ourselves to grow and make a serious effort toward expanding our communications skills to build successful relationships outside of our comfortable sphere. If we do not—it should be no surprise that we struggle and fail not just to shine the light of the Gospel, but also in all the other relationships like parenting, work, and marriage. If we desire to have effective communication with people, we need to learn how to do it well.
Who better to teach us to communicate, than God who SPOKE everything we know into existence! (Genesis 1) His Word teaches us:
“Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”
Colossians 4:6
“He who heeds the Word wisely will find good, and whoever trusts in the Lord, happy is he. The wise in heart will be called prudent, and sweetness of the lips increases learning.
Understanding is a wellspring of life to him who has it. But the correction of fools is folly.
The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, and adds learning to his lips.
Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.”
Proverbs 16:20-24
Tomorrow we will study the 8 rules for remarkable communication from God’s Word. It is God, who gave us communication; therefore, He is the expert. We can trust God, who loves us so much that He DIED to reconcile us to a RELATIONSHIP with Himself. He, indeed, gives us the wisdom to communicate; our job is to know it and put it to work in our life. I think you will be amazed at God’s plan. I sure am!

Communication is key . It is like car without gas it will not run. We must learn to effectively communicate in all our relationships. If not we will struggle not have peace.
