People are desperate to know the truth. Why? Everyone wants to know the answers to the big questions like—”Why am I here?” and “What happens when I die?” Among groups, families, institutions of higher learning, governments, philosophers, kings, etc.,—there is rarely any general consensus about truth. Most of mankind’s version of the “truth” typically boils down to whatever benefits themselves or their people.
The “truth” about how to answer the big questions are as varied as the stars. Gustave Flaubert said “There is no truth. There is only perception.” Wow—how unsettling to think that some people people believe there is no truth. The fact is, when the search for truth is left solely to mankind, there are billions of different answers. Truth becomes as unreliable as shifting sand. It changes with popular culture. It changes based upon who is in power.
But God is love, and His Word gives us a foundation for truth based upon His unchanging nature and character. Jesus said:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except by me.”
(John 14:6)
The truth of God’s Word is a gift we can count on; in fact it is a gift we can build our entire life on!
For those who have “come to the Father” by being born again, His Word provides a solid foundation for all of our decisions. It answers every question. It is our key to building a deeper relationship with Him. The Psalms explain some of the multidimensional benefits of God’s Word:
Your WORD is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
I am afflicted very much; revive me, O Lord, according to Your WORD.
Your testimonies I have taken as a heritage forever, for they are the rejoicing of my heart.
You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your WORD.
Uphold me according to Your WORD, that I may live; and do not let me be ashamed of my hope.
Hold me up, and I shall be safe, and I shall observe Your statutes continually. Therefore I love Your commandments More than gold, yes, than fine gold!
The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.
Psalms 119:105, 107, 111, 114, 116-117, 127, 130
For those who have not yet accepted God’s gift of salvation, the Word is critical to salvation, for it is the key for unlocking our faith in Him.
Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.
Romans 10:17
God’s Word is a priceless gift that reveals His unwavering truth and unending love for all of mankind; unwrap it often, and you will be blessed beyond measure.
