Right now it seems like there are so many things out of my control, that my only option is to look to God. I feel powerless. I am to the point where I must just be content with giving every day, every hour, and every minute to God because I don’t have the answers or the strength to do what needs done.
Helplessness is not a bad place—because it’s here that we learn the gift of surrender.
Surrender to God restores our mind to the way we were created to think in the Garden of Eden—before mankind chose the sin of independence from God. Whether we believe it or not…we ARE completely dependent on Him Like a young child who rebels and packs his diaper bag to run away from home…we can’t last long without the goodness of God. The problem is we tend to live like we can live indefinitely out of that diaper bag.
Through these tough times, God is teaching me my desperate need AND to FULLY surrender to Him—not just in hard times—but ALL the time.
My friend…GOD IS MUCH BETTER AT MY LIFE THAN I AM!!!
I’m not shouting at you; I promise. Rather, I’m loudly reminding myself to stop wrestling control of my life from God. When I place God in control of my life, I am empowered by HIM to do HIS work. God’s Word directs us to…
“Be STRONG in the LORD and in the power of HIS might.”
(Ephesians 6:10)
How do we become strong in the Lord?
Well, how does any warrior become strong enough to win the battle? He resolves to surrender his life to the oath he took when he joined the military. Surrender to that oath makes him part of a team that is bigger than himself. Surrender to that oath means he has the power of an entire nation behind him. To go AWOL would make him vulnerable to the enemy AND he would be hunted by his own team.
When we surrendered our life and accepted God’s gift of salvation, we took an oath to make God the LORD of our life. We surrendered and pledged our allegiance to Him, and in doing so, we gained an incredible advantage over the enemies. The Bible says:
“Put on the WHOLE armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
Ephesians 6:11-12
When we surrendered to God and accepted His gift of salvation, He equipped us. When we surrender our will to Him on a daily basis, we learn how to use our equipment. Salvation makes our spirit man alive and enables us to communicate with God. His Word is light and truth. It clears our mind and teaches us integrity and holiness so we can live close to Him. He has given us a shield of faith to deflect the enemy’s missiles. He has given us the Gospel of peace with which to rescue the victims of the enemy. He has given us the power of the Holy Spirit to speak His Word which is more powerful than any weapon formed by man. And He has given us prayer—arguable the most underutilized weapon in our arsenal. (Ephesians 6:10-18)
Surrender enables us to use ALL of our armor to engage in the raging spiritual warfare. Surrender to God’s will; surrender to reading His Word; surrender to loving obedience to His Word; surrender to prayer; surrender 100% of all you are, all you have, and all your time. Surrender like Jesus who died so we could live!
Full surrender to God is the greatest gift you can give yourself.
