The Gift Of God’s Presence

Snow capped mountains and trees

Some of you will recall my story about the morning I woke up in hell. The morning I woke up and could not sense the presence of God was—absolutely terrifying. I thought I had died and somehow had not been born again. You see, to some degree, while we are alive on this earth, ALL of us—even the unsaved —experience some measure of the presence of God. What do I mean? Well, God created life. He sustains it. He provides all the necessary physical components for the enjoyment of His creation.

“The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, Slow to anger and great in mercy. The Lord is good to all, And His tender mercies are over all His works.” ‭‭

Psalms‬ ‭145‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‬‬

When an unsaved person dies and their dead spirit man leaves this earth, they are immediately faced with the startling absence of God’s presence. Remember the story of the rich man and Lazarus? Without the beauty of God’s physical creation, all that’s left is the void which exists outside God’s presence. God is GOOD; and therefore, without Him, all that is left is a void created by awful effects of evil. Many evil people exist inside God’s good creation; and while they are here, they are able to stem the pain and misery of evil with the pleasures of this world. But when their body dies, they discover there is no good, and no relief from misery that is experienced without God. Pure evil is the complete absence of God’s presence.

After physical death, there is no escape for the soul who has died without accepting God’s gift of salvation

When we are born again, our spirit man’s eternity in God’s presence is secured. We are also able to enter into God’s presence on this earth in a way that makes our life rich and satisfying. We long for a time in God’s presence where there will be no more evil to overshadow our joy.

“You will show me the path of life; in YOUR presence is fullness of JOY; at YOUR right hand are PLEASURES forevermore.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭16‬:‭11‬ ‭‬‬

The experience of God’s presence is a gift that keeps on giving both now—and for eternity.
