God has an extraordinary gift for us in His wisdom with which to navigate a world of confusion, fear, and darkness. Omniscient and omnipotent God is neither lost or afraid. When we are born again, we never have to navigate without His wisdom. It is a great gift! Do you have it?
God’s Word promises:
“For the Lord GIVES wisdom; from HIS mouth come knowledge and understanding; HE stores up sound wisdom for the UPRIGHT; HE is a SHIELD to those who walk in INTEGRITY, GUARDING the paths of justice and WATCHING over the way of his saints.
Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every GOOD PATH; for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; discretion will WATCH OVER you, understanding will GUARD you, DELIVERING you from the way of evil.” Proverbs 2:6-12
Wow! The benefits of this gift of wisdom are incredible! Don’t you want to find the good path and the overwatch of omnipotent God? I sure do!
Well, my friend, God’s gift of wisdom IS for everyone who has been born again. But that doesn’t mean we automatically possess it. We must study His Word, and live in loving obedience to what we learn. What we love—we obey—right? But God is the only one who promises us freedom in obedience. Every other master makes us a slave.
God’s wisdom is not a mere intellectual pursuit; rather, it is possessed when we passionately pursue a life of integrity because of our love for Him.
Wisdom isn’t just knowledge of God’s ways; rather, it is—whole heartedly applying His knowledge to our behavior. For those who apply His Word and walk with integrity, the Bible says:
“My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.” Proverbs 2:1-5
To “treasure up” God’s Word and “incline your heart to understanding” means we make HIS ways our ways. In fact, it is making His thoughts—our thoughts. As the knowledge of His ways work deep into our heart, we are enlightened. Then it makes total sense to transform the way we live because God’s wisdom helps us understand the world around us. God’s wisdom helps us understand ourselves too and brings “pleasantness to our soul.” When we seek God’s wisdom—like we’re looking for hidden treasure—it becomes crystal clear why He deserves our loving obedience.
